  1. Lightning Dogs: The Official Paw’dcast – Out Now!

    lightning-dogs-pawdcast-banner

The time has finally come! Once again, The Lightning Dogs are unleashed! Back in 2013 we accidentally brainstormed a hybrid of all our favorite 80s and 90s cartoons and sci-fi during an episode of Nerdy Show. The result was a would-be animated series about anthropomorphic dogs from another world, trapped on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Armed with special powers and tearing through the Wasteland in their battle-ready vehicles, they combat the evil Glampire’s minions and keep his vampiric reach from extending to the stars.

Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, we weren’t the only ones who thought so. As soon as this episode came out, fans demanded more, and we found ourselves in the unique position of having captured the spark of an amazing idea at its birth, and the opportunity to document the entire journey. Journey to what? Why an actual animated series, of course.

Over the years we’ve recorded all of our sessions of character creation, world building, and general brainstorming of the LightningDogs universe, releasing some of them as episodes of Nerdy Show – but now we’ve launched Lightning Dogs: The Official Paw’dcast! We’ve re-released our original episodes in a new documentary format and in this on-going series we’re continuing to chronicle Lightning Dogs‘ creation every other Monday.

  5. Remembering Drew: Make Him the First LGBT Star Wars Movie Character

As an Orlando-based outlet, the massacre at Pulse deeply affected all of us here at Nerdy Show. Now one of our own is staging a campaign of remembrance that’s heartfelt and nerdy in the biggest way possible.

You may know Drew Leinonen either as a Star Wars-obsessed guest voice on Flame On! our all-gay, all-geek podcast, or, heartbreakingly, the Pulse victim who was buried alongside his husband-to-be Juan Guerrero. If you want to learn more about him, he was recently memorialized on an episode of Flame On! in a very raw, personal recording just a day after the tragedy. Now, Drew’s best friend, and former Flame On! co-host Joshua Yehl aka The Question, has started a campaign to immortalize Drew as the first on-screen LGBT Star Wars movie character.

As Joshua says, “I know it’s a long shot, but hey – never tell me the odds.”

Here’s the first steps to ushering Drew’s memory into the Star Wars holocron for all time:
Sign the Change.org petition, share it everywhere you can, and fill the net with #PutDrewInStarWars

Want to learn more? Watch Joshua’s video above or read his open letter to the heads of Lucasfilm and Disney below. (more…)

  6. No Fangs T-Shirts Are Back!

no fangsTired of the “cool kids” trying to convince you or your friends that being a werewolf, vampire, or lagoon goon is “totally rad”? There’s only one answer to those creeps: just say, “NO FANGS!”

No Fangs is America’s #1 social outreach organization for inhuman awareness and transformation prevention. Sure, Twilight might make it seem sexy to be a creature of the night, but the consequences are beyond dire. There’s no zipper on those Halloween costumes.

The No Fangs Initiative is made up of community leaders, cryptid survivors, and celebrities speaking out against the nefarious intentions of these paranormal predators. The Wolf Dads are out there, guys. We love comedy here at Nerdy Show, but this is no laughing matter. Will you join No Fangs and Nerdy Show not just in October, but all year round, to spread awareness and give kids the courage to just say… “NO FANGS”? Pick up an awesome No Fangs t-shirt today and support the cause! (more…)

ep244Spiraling from the year-end chaos the holidays bring comes… Nerdy Show!

If this is your first episode, let us stop you right here folks. Perhaps we can direct you to our Greatest Hits page where you’ll find our finest adventures. THIS episode goes deep. Join Cap and Doug for an unedited community update ramble through the craziness that comes from the year’s end, the various Nerdy Show productions in development, and on a completely unrelated note: a dream Cap had starring Tim and Eric, John C. Reilly, Leonardo DiCaprio, and a cast of performers in flesh-colored banana suits. We’ve also got some tips for what YOU can do to help Nerdy Show get a leg up in this competitive, crazy podcast world. In the months to come we’ll keep you posted on what we’re cooking up and how you can help – and on the flip side let us know how we can better serve your infotainment needs! (more…)

  9. YEAR-END LIST: The Top 20 Nerdy Things of 2015

    top 20 nerdy things 2015 700

It’s the moment you’ve been waiting all year for: your friends at Nerdy Show have once more completed the impossible (and some argue unnecessary) task of ranking the top 20 nerdiest things of the year.

Our list heralds from all facets of society: from science to game shows and pop culture to technology. We’ve run the gamut, collected a host of nerdy topics, and ranked them on a completely arbitrary and unscientific scale (save for the Google Sheets wizardry Jess cast to tally everyone’s votes). It’s always a heatedly debated list, but this year there is one glaring omission you’re sure to notice: The Force Awakens. The Star Wars frenzy is in full effect, pushing global nerd energies to ice cap melting extremes. In this case, that’s a good thing – but we felt it fair to omit the biggest player on the board so the rest could have a chance to shine. (more…)

  10. YEAR-END LIST: The Top Nerdy Things of 2015 – Superlatives

top 20 nerdy things 2015 superlatives

Every year the Nerdy Show crew mash our collective heads together to figure out the Top 20 Nerdy Things of the Year. Competition is always fierce and divisive. When you’re dealing with as subjective a quantifier as “nerdiness” things just don’t stack the same as your average “best of” lists. That why this year we’ve foregone the usual Honorable Mentions and created a series of superlatives to give due recognition to the more specific notes of nerd awesomeness that rocked us in the wily year of 2015.
