Episode 23 :: Powering Up to ‘Palooza!

July 14th, 2010

PALOOZA!Someone set us up the bomb, ’cause this ish is about to explodeNerdapalooza 2010 is this weekend and we’re MCing it!  In order to power up for this momentous occasion we’re pre-gaming stating NOW on energy drinks and chili dogs in-between running obstacle courses for gold rings… basically gaining a starman infinity buzz that’s gonna last all weekend.  If we seem distant it’s ’cause we’re on another realm fumbling around or Chaos Emeralds… What am I even talking about anymore?  Hey!  What the God damn is a “palooza” anyway?  We’d better find out!

As part of our preparation we’ve been joined by the high-class nerd musician George Hrab, a prime figure in the skeptic music scene.  He talks about some of the cool stuff he’s got in store for us at the festival, what being a “skeptic” is all about, and the importance of killer album art.  RPG fans, get ready for an intense Dragon Quest IX review that will carpet bomb you with harsh truths as our man, Brandon picks apart this globally-anticipated game.  Wash all that down with some wearable bacteria, lesbian mice, and video game industry drama.. and don’t blame us if you’ve got a raging hangover.  SEE YA AT THE SHOW!

Episode 22 :: Were The Wild Things Are

July 7th, 2010

were the wild things areZombies are on their way out, vampires are all the rage again, but there’s a new up-and-comer in the pop culture paranormal circuit… werewolves.  Sure, werewolves have been around a long time but they’ve never seen a surge in popularity like this before.  It seems like there’s an outbreak of lycanthropy in the western world and it’s hitting hard – with would-be teen wolves running amok in North American schools and shopping malls, even Nerdy Show has lost one of its number to the lupine side.

In this episode we rail on the nonsense of the Twilight series, look into real life teen wolves and explore their tragic wolven anguish on the internet and their hatred for the “hunters”.  Our werewolf discussion heats up when we place a call to Lunario Von Darkwolfe III, who claims to have been a werewolf for over seventy years and then get him on the phone with our duck huntin’ pal, Dean Wallace who may have bagged him a wolf-man or two in the past.

There’s plenty of comics, video games, and science mixed in with all this wolfy nonsense – but that’s not all.  What’s the craze that never waxes and wanes but is as immortal as the sea and sky?  NINJAS of course!  Masurao and Shinobi of Krondor Krew join us in the studio for some hardcore ninja-talk, armed to the teeth and sporting some sacred silver blades just in case they should be attacked by a were-creature.

Episode 019 :: Peaks Freaks

June 3rd, 2010

peaks freaks 300As you’ve no doubt gathered from our recent episodes, we’re in love with the X-Box game, Alan Wake and its live action prequel, Bright Falls. But alongside our excitement for this new game is our love for one of Wake‘s primary influences: David Lynch and Mark Frost’s Twin Peaks.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the monumental television series and Nerdy Show has put together a spectacular show in its honor.  So lock the doors on your cabin in the woods, scarf down some donuts and pie, and enjoy a damn good cup of coffee (or a nice fist full of Garmonbozia as the case may be) – this episode will possess you with its awesomeness.  The Nerdy Show gang is joined by evil man and nerd rapper extraordinaire, Schäffer the Darklord – a Peaks fan so old school he’s got the original broadcasts on VHS, and Matt Haley, the comic book artist who nearly got Twin Peaks continued as a graphic novel.

In this episode Haley gives the plot lines of what would have been the Season 3 Graphic Novel and drops some major truth bombs about what you think you know about Twin Peaks.  We also share our favorite parts of the series, our own paranormal experiences, and go in-depth with what links Alan Wake and Twin Peaks as well as what makes each surreal suspense-thriller so unique and amazing.  Unfortunately, Phillip Van, the co-writer and director of Bright Falls was unable to join us for this episode, but we’ll be having a Q & A with him in some form in the near future, so look forward to that and be sure to check out his short films below.

If you haven’t watched Twin Peaks before, then you’re definitely going to want to after this episode.  Get your Netflix ready, check them out on iTunes in HD (better than the DVD quality), or see below for where you can watch the series online.  Boy, are you in for a treat.

Note: If you downloaded this before 12pm Thursday June 3rd, and have never seen Twin Peaks, re-download it. There’s a MAJOR spoiler that was supposed to be edited out.  It has now been fixed.

THE 2009 TOP 20 LIST REVEALED

Episode 14 :: Leftovers 4 Dad

November 30th, 2009

leftovers-4-dad-3002EDIT: Sorry about the VERY late posting of this. There were some INSANE technical issues involving reconstructing the episode. It would have been a LOT less effort to re-record it… but what we had was gold, so it was worth it. I’ve left the description intact as it was intended… so it may read weird. :P ENJOY!!

It’s almost Thanksgiving… and you know what that means… ZOMBIES!! Okay, we don’t talk about zombies A LOT, but it’s still a VERY nerderific show where we talk a lot about zombie video games, Brian’s neuroses, fixin’ racism, and the Nerdapalooza Live CD release. Listen in and prove us wrong!
