Nerdy Show Review: Amazon’s The Tick – Season 1 – Spoiler-Free

Posted by NerdyShow on August 23, 2017

When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews.

The biggest, boldest, bluest name in superhero comedy is bounding back into your life! This week Amazon unveils the first season of The Tick (or half of it anyway). Ben Edlund has returned to his cyan creation with the incomparable Peter Serafinowicz in the title role alongside a cast of up-and-comers. Join Cap, Tony, and Doug as we celebrate the Ticks that have come before and discuss the finer points of what this new spin on an old favorite does differently. In this spoiler-free review, learn how the show has evolved past the pilot that was released last year and what a darker, more story-driven series can do for comedy and classic Tick stories that prior shows couldn’t.

  • At the time the 2001 series came out, I didn’t care for it, despite my appreciation for Patrick Warburton. I guess I was expecting it to be an extension of the cartoon (I should probably give it another try). So when I heard about this new series, I wrote it off without a second thought, but after listening to this episode, I gave it a try. You dudes were right! It’s a little weird (unfamiliar) to have the darker tone, but Peter Serafinowicz is an oustanding Tick, and I’m looking forward to the second half of the season!

Glad we didn’t leave you astray, dude! “Early 2018” can’t come soon enough.

      • I agree, but that’s the thing with Destiny, she’ll make you wait a from time to time. She’ll assure you that her nails just need a tiny touch-up, but then it’s her hair, and so on… But Destiny is worth that wait, chum! As you stroll down that street called The Future, hand-in-hand with Destiny, it’ll be well-worth the wait.
