Last year on Nerdy Show we were continually having our minds blown by the leaps and bounds in augmented reality tech (AR) and its increasingly mainstream exposure. We covered it on the show a lot, including a trip to the International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality by our sci-tech guy, Jon West. AR even made it onto our Top 20 Nerdy Things of 2009 list at number 11. So far 2010 has been relatively quiet on the AR front… but NO LONGER!
Introducing the first augmented reality jaw-dropper of 2010, and the most incredible piece of consumer-ready AR we’ve ever seen: The Parrot AR Drone. The AR Drone is essentially a Cypher from Metal Gar Solid but made for fun, not espionage. Okay, maybe espionage – it’s all in how you use it. It’s a bit light on actual augmented reality, but come on! It’s a remote flying and hovering aircraft with a camera that you control with your iPhone. It’s incredible. A perfect example of the future staring you straight in the face. See for yourself:
There’s a lot of cool video games etc. coming out this holiday, but I think I speak for all of us when I say that this machine trumps all of them in its baffling futuristic awesomeness. But use it responsibly, gang. The Drone is an incredibly fun and amazing entertainment machine, so keep it that way. We don’t want another General Zevo on our hands.
UPDATE: You can now pre-order the AR Drone at Brookstone.com!
E3 was two weeks ago, but our vidcast coverage continues!
By now you might know a heap of the cool stuff that was shown and announced, but not with the hands-on experience and developer interviews we can deliver – including behind-the-scenes with both Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II and The Old Republic, Fable 3, Goldeneye, the secrets of the Bethesda booth including Cap’s preview of Rage, a closed-door demo with High Voltage Studios, an amazing new feat of augmented reality, and MORE! All that plus Mike, Cap, and Colin’s hi-jinx and their death-defying attempt to see Video Games Live during the last game of the NBA Finals. The story continues… this week!

For those that have yet to listen to the 2009 Final Boss episode, you can peep it here, but below is the list of the Top 20 Nerdy THINGS of 2009, according to the Nerdy Show crew.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we present to you the Final Boss of 2009! In this episode we unleash our list of the Top Twenty Nerdy THINGS of 2009, in a VERY specific order. Movies, video games, people, music, concepts- if it’s nerdy then we judged its worth. Listen in to find out what we thought were the best of the best. This episode is also the finale of Nerdy Show Season 2. We’ll be back sometime in January, so keep those RSS feeds warm and an eye on our twitter and facebook as we fine-tune and improve the Nerdy Show battle wagon. Thank you for listening and making this season out-freakin’-standing.
Celebrating the chiptunes genre/movement (whichever you prefer to call it), the Nerdy Show team invites British chiptunes maestro, Pixelh8, on the show to give us his take on it. We also have the amazing return of the incomparable Brian Clevinger! We missed him so much!!
In this episode, we’re still recovering from our respective Halloweens and have a very spooky episode of Nerdy Show. There are talking dogs. We also finally give our full expose on the 2009 International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality that our sci-tech news guy, Jon West, attended. The practicality of virtual plate cats is discussed.
Also, in this episode, Cap gives a full review of Dragon Age: Origins, thanks to our sponsor, Play N Trade.
