Nerdy Show Microsode: Terranigma and the Quintet Legacy
When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews.
This episode spotlights one of the greatest video games you’ve never heard of: Terranigma. Those who know it, regard it as among the greatest RPGs of the Super Nintendo era, if not of all-time. This is no mere tale of sword and sorcery, Terranigma taps into the duality of life and the contradictory nature of the human existence. It’s the story of Ark, a reckless young man from outside time, who’s charged with resurrecting Earth and human culture from global extinction. The game is heavy stuff, and it’s not alone. Terranigma is one in a series of thematically-linked titles made by the studio Quintet, along with likewise revered games: Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Actraiser, and Granstream Saga. In this extra-length Microsode we discuss them all, but to do so we need some help…
Cap and Brandon are joined by Lauren the Flute of VGM band, The Returners and Adil Mohyuddin of Fangamer to expand on the complexities of one of our favorite games. Whether you’re a long-time fan, or this is the first you’re hearing of the game, this is a journey through a classic you won’t soon forget.
Thanks to Matt Cox for this Microsode request, and if you enjoy this episode, be sure to come out to Camp Fangamer in Tucson, AZ July 29-31 where Cap, Lauren, and Adil are expanding this discussion into a panel!

What a great episode. This game is now on the top of my “When I don’t have access to a good computer” list. Straight ahead of Shadowrunner.
That’s awesome! I edited out anything that could be considered serious spoilers so we could go deep, but not ruin anything. Glad it pulled you in. It’s a must-play game.
