What do you hope Episode VII is about? Give us a few sentences telling us what you’d pitch to The Mouse for the next Star Wars installment.

    Mine begins thusly:

Old Man Lando shows up after years of living on the Galactic Fringe and convinces Old Man Solo to quit herding nerfs and go out for one last big score. Lando’s hooked up with this starry eyed kid that says he’s a hotshot sabaac player but nobody’s ever heard of him. Old Man Chewie doesn’t want any part of it, he reminds Han they promised Leia (who left on some diplomatic mission decades before and was never heard from again) they’d give up their lives of crime. The mcguffin is good enough to lure Han away, and they go to some kind of Maverick-style Sabaac tournament. The kid turns out to be his long-lost son, and is dangerously close to going to the dark side from using the force to cheat at space cards. There’s a space gangster, hijinks ensue, Chewie shows up in the nick of time to fulfill his life debt, lessons are learned.

Well, if this has any truth to it, it will be about Luke Skywalker.

“You can expect lovingly restored prints of the original trilogy to surface in the near future. That’s a no brainer. I along with the rest of the world want those movies in their original glory. Disney are all over that, believe me.”

Disney likes money, reprinting the original versions of the flims is basically printing money. Why wouldn’t they do that?
Also I expect EP7 to be a coming of age tale about Leia and Han’s kids learning the proper use of the force from Luke. One of them probably falls to the dark side with whatever villain, but in the end they team up and defeat the villain with the power of family. Luke or Chewy probably die at some point to show that there is some stakes to what is happening.
Now, this isn’t the movie I want to happen (that would be the Thrawn Trilogy) but it’s the movie I expect to happen.

I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that disney is going to immediately put out any kind of classic unaltered release. They have a long tradition of burying releases of their own, and they have a policy of putting home versions on “moratorium” for years/decades at a time so that when they DO finally release them, it is a big event. There are some movies that will never get released in their entirety, like Song of the South (because it is straight up racist and that is no longer socially acceptable), and others that they’ve sat on for a good long time like (The Black Cauldron)for who knows what reason. So unless somebody has inside information to the contrary, I would be very hesitant to believe that they are going to put out any version of it any time soon. That being said, they probably are going to release some kind of special Disney edition, much like a new stepfather will have his own kid just to prove he can. What form that release will take I would hesitate to speculate on.

I read an article shortly after I posted my Ep VII synopsis interviewing Timothy Zahn about his upcoming novel for star wars, and he basically described it as “Solo’s 11” in which he and Lando put together a super team of scum and villainy and try to scam some big underworld figure set between episodes 4 and 5. I thought that was funny a little bit.
