Finally started this the other day. It gets pretty wtf in the first few pages and just keeps going. Very interesting and impossible to predict (so far), which is a real nice change. Also grabbed Ghost Brigades for when this is finished.
On a slightly related side note, anyone on Goodreads? This is mine if you feel like friending.May 27, 2012 at 8:50 am #23107BeenParticipant
I haven’t had to start the book yet, been working my through both Cryptonomicon and Being Geek, a career’s guide focused on computing geeks. Both are pretty good so far.
And I’m on Goodreads too, profile here.June 26, 2012 at 10:20 am #24212Colin PetersonParticipant
Alright guys! Time to read/finish this book…. We’re recording Saturday, so get your comments in to have them discussed on the show!August 16, 2012 at 4:32 pm #25579

And reposting what @Musical_Jinn (aka Colin) posted elsewhere:
“I know that this is slightly vain, because I’m a part of it, but I love this show.”

I should actually start reading books again. Part of it is that the PX doesn’t exactly have the best selection, but I could have always not been lazy and ordered stuff off amazon.

You could always try out Audible. Some of their audiobook selections are really awesome (You generally can’t go wrong with anything read by Wil Wheaton). There’s all sorts of free codes going around if you want to get a book or 2 for free while trying it out first.
Also, in 2 minds about whether to listen to this episode or not right now. On one hand, I love reading and the last 2 episodes were brilliant. On the other hand, I haven’t been able to get a copy of the book yet (seriously, this one is the only one in the series not available on the Kindle in the UK). At this right I’ll probably have to “acquire” it if I want to read it while sticking to the digital route.August 20, 2012 at 10:45 pm #25711MaxParticipant
Just finished the book today at lunch and listened to the episode in the afternoon. As with Old Man’s War, it was an engaging read. It almost felt like an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel at the beginning, what with the “Primitive Superman woos fish-out-of-water society girl, inadvertantly offends her, and then wins her back with Action” elements, but then suddenly warp zones! I thought that part was a pretty good idea, and I wish it would have been expounded upon further. What was the next book? I didn’t make a note of it while listening. Will it also feature disembodied minds finding new, young bodies?August 21, 2012 at 3:22 pm #25733
The next book is called “The Fabulous Riverboat”, kinda hard to get by itself anymore, the books usually come packaged together. I assume the premise of the world still hold in the next book, Hex would know.August 21, 2012 at 6:31 pm #25736MaxParticipant
Oh no, I meant the next book club book.August 21, 2012 at 9:32 pm #25738Colin PetersonParticipant

So I listened to the episode, and now I have to get this book. And that Casper Kelly one too.
Yes, read this signature while I sneak up behind you.November 4, 2012 at 8:38 pm #27235LichLordParticipant
So I got a combo book of Scattered + Riverboat, and started reading.
Good so far, but is it good or bad that I read the whole first chapter with Hex’s Narrative voice in my head?

@LichLord No… that is gooood. Very goooood.
Also, while we’re talking about previous book clubs…
I’m stoked to announce that the Travis McGee series is not only getting new editions with considerably better jacket designs (though still not as good as the old pulp illustrations) BUT it’s also making it’s break into the digital age! Starting in January McGee is digital!
