So I’ve been listening to the new Masked Justice episode at work today (I’m about an hour and a half in) and I kept thinking about this song that fits really well with the topic that I figured I’d share.

The song is “The Hero” by Guante, a Minneapolis based hip hop artist and activist who is, in my opinion, terribly underrated.

    Enjoy! =)

I… I’m listening to the part about Master Legend.

    I… hm.

I’ve never met Master Legend, but hearing him speak reminds me strongly of a guy that used to be in my small group for a while who had been addicted to drugs. I’m not entirely sure he is, but a few things sound like he was on them in a few cases in his stories.

I hope the man is clean and has a good life, but his paranoia and strange speech patterns remind me extremely strongly of the other I’ve met.

    ______

I have to say, while some of Mr. Bob’s ideas were hilarious, I genuinely enjoyed the B movie that is Mystery Men. I know, I know: full confession, is that I genuinely enjoyed (a lot) The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie as well. It may have something to do with the fact that I wasn’t introduced to the comics until afterwords…

    ______

Unfortunately, I’ve got to stop at 1:13:20, but I’ll be back for more! … eventually.

    @StarF Cool song, dude!

@Tacticslion I don’t know what Master Legend got up to in his halcyon days, but these days he’s more or less obsessed with clean living. Make of that what you will.

I didn’t mention them before, but I like what Skiffytown is doing, though it’s interesting to see the schisms, as it were, in the superhero community.

Phoenix Jones sounds like one of the most awesome dudes to have ever lived. I love the fact that he’s basically a working dad who is, in fact, an awesome costumed hero. That’s… really swell.

Pittsburg Batman… well, I certainly don’t share his view of police officers, but at least he’s trying to do the right thing… ? Eh…

The historical costumed groups were… interesting. They also seemed like quite violent collectives. It’s a very fascinating discussion and it would be extremely interesting to actually delve into similar groups – both those mentioned and alluded to within the episode, and those that aren’t – because said groups are very likely not the first collective or individuals to take on a costume and perform justice. That would just be a pretty sweet historical treatise waiting to happen.

It’s really interesting that the people who are the most ‘successful’ seem to consistently encourage one thing: Know the Law. That, I think, is one of the most important things to take away from this, that to be a real life superhero needs to know the law and… needs to work within it. They might not need to work as part of the law (aka they might not need to be a duly appointed officer, or the like), but certainly they need to know it and work with it as much as possible.

    Brandon should practice this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zGnxeSbb3g

Anyway, this episode was incredibly amazing, and I’m really glad you guys did it. What a fascinating thing, and you did an excellent job!

@Cap (reference Master Legend): Which is actually really, really cool. I’m very glad about that for his sake (and those around us)! It would also make a certain amount of sense, but, as I said, I’ve never met the man myself… listening to him was just eerily similar to other experiences I’ve had.

You guys, this show, and what you did to bring it together are, all told, awesome! ๐Ÿ˜€

By the way, I wish to be clear: just because I disagree with, disapprove of, or feel an eerie familiarity with a person you guys interview (or you guys yourself) does not mean that I dislike, hate, or reject said individual. Such separations of opinion are one of the things that makes the U.S.’s freedom of expression pretty awesome, and, whoever they happen to be, said individuals are certainly people and should be treated like such. ๐Ÿ™‚

(That doesn’t mean I condone them, though, much like Nerdy Show can’t condone everything everyone they interview says. Which is also cool.) ๐Ÿ™‚
