What this crazy. Disney buys Lucas Arts. Then says they will have Episode 7 out by 2015.

I had to check the date twice to make sure I didn’t relapse back to April.

I had to double check to make sure it wasn’t a prank. Not sure how I feel about Episode 7 honestly.

I’m genuinely excited about this. A Star Wars movie made w/o George Lucas having complete creative control is some of the best news the series has had in a while.

I actually have some hope for 7. No Lucas holding the reins, perhaps a return of the original cast with their aged characters? Though, if I remember correctly, the expanded sequels were basically the original trilogy with different characters…Not 100% on that, it’s been a while. Still, I’d love some Jedi Master Hamill teaching the Solo kids to use the Force.

In a way. Let’s see Young Jedi Academy happened following Han and Leia’s twin’s, then the next big think was the return of the empire I think, Yuzonvong War or however you spell it, then one of the twin’s goes all Dark Side with the other twin killing Darth Twin. That’s all I know about the expanded universe. Luke get’s married to another Jedi. Chewbacca gets hit in the face with a moon. Other stuff.

I thought Luke went Dark at some point and was brought back by one of his kids. Maybe? I don’t know. Anywho, I meant more like “bring on the characters with some better writing” versus “make the expanded universe stuff.” Then again, if they didn’t follow the books, people would nerd rage that they changed the story. Too bad the story is just the previous story happening again. If they changed it, though, it’d be new and surprising, and that’s what I’m hoping for.

I see a lot of words that aren’t Thrawn, this makes me sad. The Thrawn trilogy would have made great movies.

In my mind, I’ve always imagined Heir to the Empire being the third trilogy. But the actors are all far too old for that now. I’m cautiously optimistic…in the same way I’m cautiously optimistic about Pirates baseball every season.

I am pretty optimistic. The overall quality of any serious Disney is great. Plus the direction they have gone with the Marvel franchise has been superb.

@bertoelcon: absolutely, Thrawn would make a fantastic movie villain. The Noghri would be awesome too, all played by Andy Serkis if Disney had any sense.

I agree that Disney has done generally well since then and honestly I can’t think of a reason explaining how they could botch the series on their own terms.

It will certainly be a great movie to see at least once. My only fear they intend to incorporate a story with Luke, Han and Lela w/o more than the voices of the original actors. Current fears are that it will be another cartoon movie. Something seemed lost in translation between the CGI toons and live action movies to me.

I think if they got the Pixar guys to make a live-action SW sequel, it’d turn out great. Visually, at least. John Carter had great visuals.
