The motivation might be a little suspect (“Hey, we can make money from Male AND Female audiences”) but who can complain about more Ghostbusters. Especially since Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd will be involved 🙂

“Sony Pictures is broadening the Ghostbusters franchise and the first order of business will be a male-driven action-centric comedy that is a counterpart tothe Paul Feig-directed film that will start production in June.”

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment.”

Sorry, Stu. I’m terrified beyond the capacity for rational thought.

    Doug has gone bye-bye.

After seeing the update this morning I am kind of terrified too:

“…sources also hinted that even though Sony has a Ghostbusters Universe mapped out, not every film will be about apprehending disembodied spirits. According to the sources, the “Ghostbusters” name is merely a catch-all phrase for a slate of action-driven, supernatural comedies anchored by the Ghostbusters.”

Now all I can think is how desperate Sony’s is for a big franchise and how their attempts to do that with Spiderman worked out.

I have never seen a great old show or movie come back good after this much of a break. This dead spirit should remain undisturbed.

The whole thing is disrespectful. To women, men, fans… everyone.

One the one hand I can’t help but feel that this was a misguided attempt at appeasing the portion of the fandom that has been very vocal about the choice to go with an all female cast for the first movie. On the other, the names involved aren’t the sort of people you just throw together on a last minute project, so it seems like it’s something that’s been planned for a while.

Last 10 minutes or so, you get to hear what Max Landis’s pitch for a Ghostbusters movie was: http://www.feralaudio.com/41-s7ep12-x-cops-with-max-landis/

The only thing I am glad for because of this news is the possibility of a “State of the Franchise” podcast (state of the Empire podcast but with the GB Resurrection crew.) (Twitter of it: https://twitter.com/GBResurrection/status/576029079306158080 )

The news since the announcement of them basically using Ghostbusters as branding for supernatural comedies is interesting it is basically what the cartoon tried to do a few times (The Bigfoot episode). With all the recent Science-Supernatural series recently (Warehouse 13 and The Librarians are the two which basically the most Ghost Busters like. (Note to self: Use the GB RPG as a bases for a Warehouse 13 RPG)) It would be interesting to see if they can do a good take on non-ghost material in the same way as they did the original movies.

Also I would not be surprised if you see a werewolf become canon in one of these spin-offs.
