John Scalzi’s newest book is really really good, if you haven’t read it I highly recommend it. If you are a scifi fan at all and especially if you are a Star Trek fan this book makes for an enjoyable although quick read. I won’t go into spoilers as the book is still very new but it’s absolutely worth a look.

You can also find a preview of the first 5 chapters here at

Does it explain why those guys die all the time? I mean…it’s like they have the worst luck. Poor guys, I always feel bad for the nameless/faceless red shirts.

I was a little peeved that wasn’t being released in the UK in any fashion until November, but then I read the FAQ, particularly points 10 and 11. Now I’ve pre-ordered it from Amazon and somehow have a copy of this book sitting in my Kindle at the same time. I’m going to dive into it once I finish Cryptonomicon. Then there’s the new Terry Pratchett book that just came out last week. And Singularity&Co just released their first ebook too. It’s going to be a busy month…

I may have to check some of those out as well, I think you’ll really enjoy Red Shirts. I didn’t realize it was so difficult to get through normal channels overseas but at least that copy magically appeared on your Kindle.
