I think there needs to be a spectral flash light to reveal ghosts like the goggles wouldOctober 26, 2014 at 10:14 pm #43276MijderParticipant
I honestly think the goggles are sufficient. Also, gameplay where one player has to act as the eyes for another could be more fun.October 26, 2014 at 10:35 pm #43277
My players have been at it and we haven’t even started. The Portable Kinetically Triggered Muon Trap aka the PoKiT Muon Trap, PoKiT Ball, or PoKiT Trap for short. It is about the size of a Soft ball and Has a slime weave shell. It has multiple kinetically triggered on its surface. When it strikes something the iris closes to the vector of impact opens pulling in any ghost that might be there. A traditional Ghost Trap relies on a broad cone of psychokinetic force. It is relatively broad and diffuse to make up for the traps bulkiness. Ghosts must be position and held in place by capture streams. The Pokit Trap is designed to be thrown and thus be in close contact with its target. It doesn’t need a broad field over a large area but a much smaller and more forceful field. This allows a skilled Ghost Buster to avoid the need for a capture stream as long as a Ghost’s P.K.E. has been reduced to zero and he manages to hit his target. Improvements in battery and slime technology make this device possible but it still has a shorter battery life than a standard trap. It needs to be recharged after each use, and since it relies on impact to trigger it doesn’t matter if it hit its target or not. It is also only capable of containing one ghost at a time. In terms of carrying capacity I plan on treating it much like a slime grenade. I figure it will work really well when ghost busters might be separated, for small groups, and with the proton pistols. In terms of DMing, rolling a ghost die on a capture throw might result in the thing rolling somewhere. If they fail they will have to retrieve it and recharge it, and if they fail and get a ghost it might be unrecoverable or take damage. A player with a good moves roll could be very effective with this.

The flash light would be interesting if it was very limited. On for short bursts. Maybe it has some radioactive element that can cause light property damage, or sickness to the user. Temporary blindness definitely if it is shown in someone’s eyes.
My reasoning for it is this. To make the PKE visible, the particles would need to react to the entity and reflect with visible light. Normally the goggles work like night vision, taking in the energy from the ghost and translating it to visible light. The flash light is basically a weak, widely disbursed proton field. This would basically be a way to temporarily disable an entities ability to remain invisible.
I just got my cards yesterday. Maybe I can compare the idea more.October 27, 2014 at 1:32 pm #43299DougKeymasterOctober 27, 2014 at 7:19 pm #43303
Is there a name for the device they used in Ghostbusters 2 during the montage in the glass shop?October 27, 2014 at 7:46 pm #43307RedmenaceParticipant
it is called a Polarity Rectification Tripod and basically it counters levitation or contra gravitic anomaly zones.October 27, 2014 at 7:52 pm #43308

Now is there a card for that?October 28, 2014 at 5:40 pm #43355DougKeymaster
There are currently no plans to create a card for Polarity Rectification Tripods.
They’re kind of useless for busting ghosts. If you want them in your game… then… I guess we’ll just have to make some blank equipment cards.

I got a horrible feeling there is a misguided Ghostbusters nerd that is trying to rationalize a mechanized Ghostbuster power suit with proton blasters in his forarms with sensors built into his helmet and some ridiculous gozer stopper cannonOctober 28, 2014 at 10:53 pm #43360October 28, 2014 at 10:56 pm #43362AnonymousInactive
I think with the more compact equipment that a ghost master will have to remind players that it is a bad idea to have too many registered or unregistered nuclear power sources in close proximity.October 28, 2014 at 11:40 pm #43365MijderParticipant
You say that like its a bad thing.
