Preface
Hello fellow builders! This is my, Kaosubaloo’s (aka: John Payment) Entree from the Minecraft Build-A-Thon Contest.
Welcome to the Torterra Adventure! The oldest screenshot I have indicates that I started working on this thing BEFORE the 28th of January and I have long since lost track of all the blocks I’ve put into it. I built it by myself and besides several generous donations of base materials (mostly dirt, but there was other stuff as well) I supplied all the materials myself.
The following documents the journey to and exploration of Torterra, the EPIC TURTLE OF DIRT by the Wayward Adventurer. Please note that this is not the same person as the narrator of The Road to Mount Creeper, Mysterious Explorer, who went missing (Spoilers!) and whose apprentice this bad dude is. And I do mean bad.
You see, this new character is conveniently a bit of a sellout who adopts a series of adventure-appropriate personas for fun and profit. But without further delay, on with the Adventuring!
EDIT: Here are the Coordinates. X: -1145 Z: -593
Chapter 1: The Road to Torterra
Welcome to the world of Pokemon! My name is Professor Oak.
But everyone calls me the Pokemon Professor.
Before we go any further I’d like to tell you a few things you should know about this world!
…
Now, why don’t you tell me a little bit about yourself?
Are you a boy?
Or are you a—Photobucket
“We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you an exciting adventure! We are on location with PURPLE the pokemon adventurer as we follow a tip on finding the legendary Torterra! What are you’re thoughts on this adventure PURPLE?”
“. . .”
“Fascinating stuff! Shown above is the start of our adventure. We are here at the start of a local road named ‘The Highway to hell’. A local joke or something more sinister? As you heard from PURPLE a moment before, to reach the great Turtle we will want to travel all the way down this road until reaching the predetermined spot! If you want to know the spot then you’ll need to watch each installment as we document the journey in extraordinary detail!”
*Omitted*
“Wosh, that was a long road, but as you can see we’ve around at that special place!”
Photobucket
“Now that we’ve reached this important point, we will consult once again with out adventurer guide PURPLE!”
“. . .”
“You heard him folks! We’ll be traveling down this new ‘netherack-rimmed’ road until we reach a fork not unlike that last one. Join us next time as-”

*More Omited*
“Finally we are nearing the end of our journey! Now let’s remin-*Even more Omited*-Now, before we reveal the glorious turtle, what are the thoughts of our great guide, the Adventurer PURPLE?”
*JUST GET ON WITH IT ALREADY*

Chapter 2: Enter the giant Dirt Turtle
GREETINGS CITIZENS! THIS IS PURPLE’S POKEMON TALKING! THE PREVIOUS ANNOUNCER WAS FIRED FOR POOR REVIEWS! SO, INSTEAD OF THAT WINDY BAD< PLEASE ENJOY THESE WRITTEN NOTES OF THE SILENT ADVENTURER PURPLE!
". . ."
When we last off Torterra was in site and we needed to climb down and reach it. The previous narrator, Announcer Man, disregarded my warnings and just jumped off of the path.
Alas, he shall be missed.
Oh course, no one can become a Pokemon Master with that sort of carelessly, so I walk to the transfer station and quickly find myself under the great Pokemon.
Photobucket
It doesn't take long for me to find the entrance to this place; a small doorway in the back of a leg. Inside there is a ladder that seems to lead to the main body of Torterra. But more importantly I beaten ORANGE (aka: DOUCHE) to this monu…wait. That doesn't sound right. I NEVER beat him anywhere. Hmm, I'm going to need to be watching out for that.
Photobucket
Up the ladder I'm greeted with the site of what seems to be a small town. Odd, but considering the size of this thing I can think of stranger things to find in its stomach. This place looks…oddly familiar. I look around with trepidation, searching for some sign that will tell me what this place it.
Photobucket
Holy **** it's Pallet Town!
It all makes sense! Everyone knew that Oak did something with the town when it disappeared all those years ago. You simply don't get rich enough for a solid-gold lab and without becoming a super villain. And-what was that! I could have sworn I just heard something but…WAIT! ORANGE! He's the estranged Nephew of Oak! Clearly, he MUST be involved and is lurking around here somewhere to ambush me.
Photobucket
I rush to the lab. I need to find a safe place to hide. There's some bookshelf in here, but the place is surprisingly unfurnished. There's some bookshelves but I can't quickly pry those away and hide behind them. But…what is this?
Photobucket
This I can work with. What this device is I have absolutely no idea, but it stretches way way up there and it seems I can climb up. Well, this may be my only chance, so up I go.
WILL OUR HEROIC ADVENTURER PURPLE ESCAPE HIS DASTARDLY ROYAL ORANGE!? WILL OAK GET AWAY WITH HIS PLAN TO…UHH…WILL OAK GET AWAY WITH HIS EVIL PLAN!? WILL PURPLE ACTUALLY TALK!?
STAY TUNED TO FIND OUT!

Photobucket
". . .aaaaaAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"
"Huff. huff. hoooooo…Okay now, I think I'm safe. Now where am I?"
ERR…PURPLE.
"Looks like the inside of a tree. And WHAT a tree! I winder what's up there…"
PURPLE?
Photobucket
"Looks like…a tree, I guess. I can't say I was expecting something different, but somehow I feel a little disappointed. I wonder what the view s like."
POKEDEX TO PURPLE. ANYONE LISTENING!?
Photobucket
"That's quite the view. How high up am I? Still, I can't really see very well past the foliage. Let's look for a better vantage point."
ADVENTURER PURPLE! YOU NEED TO LISTEN FOR A MINUTE!!
Photobucket
"Wow. this place tree is amazing. so tall. Definitely high enough that I need to watch my step. A fall from here would not be pretty."
WAYWARD ADVENTURER!! YOU ARE BREAKING CHARACTER!!
". . .!"
AHEM. AND SO THE GREAT ADVENTURER PURPLE FINISHED HIS EXPLORATION OF THE GREAT TREE BY AGREEING TO A SUBSTANTIAL PAY CUT! JOIN USE NEXT TIME AS HE SURVEYS THE REST OF TORTERRA, IN CHAPTER 4: THIS MAY BE THE LAST ONE!! SEE YOU NEXT TIME!!

PM this userChapter 4: We Lied About This Title Too
Photobucket
The view outside on the back proper is nearly as good as that in the tree, and a whole lot safer to see. Shown above is Torterra's head as viewed from behind. Notice how it faces the transit point; staring down any passerbys who dare look out the window with it's deadly glare. It's quite the inspiring site, surely the platform was build with this in mind.
(It wasn't)
Photobucket
And now we're on the head. You see, Torterra hold's its head high, making it an excellent viewing platform for surveying the rest of the Pokemon. Hmm. I know from when I was up there that the tree is full of torches (I hope they don't catch!) but where is that light coming from on the mountain? Err…Hill? Rocky Ridge? I'm sticking with mountain.
Photobucket
Wowit'savolcano! I did Nnnnnnot expect that. Gotta want your step here. But even so, this just goes to show you the RAW AWESOME POWER of Torterra. Truly, this is a Pokemon of unrivaled power. More importantly, think of the dastardly schemes of the vile Professor Oak! I mean to think, under my feet right now, inside the bellow of Torterra, is non other then Oak's solid gold lab AND the entire town that he spirited away along with it. Why…woah. I need to not work myself up on the top of a bleeping Volcano. MOVING ON!
(How is that under a Volcano?)
Photobucket
And this is the legendary Torterra's…tail. Not really much to say on this one.
Photobucket
And with this we have concluded our adventure! After all, where better to end the discoveries of the Great Torterra than the end of the Great Torterra!!
PURPLE…
Umm…NEVER MIND! (Please don't cut my pay any more). Join us next time for more exciting adventures!
THIS ADVENTURE LOG WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE COLOUR PURPLE, AMETHYST CO., AND PROFESSOR BIRCH. ANY SEMBLANCE TO REAL LIFE PEOPLE IS STRICTLY COINCIDENTAL! THE LOCAL, HOWEVER, IS TOTALLY LEGIT! WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THAT OAK!?

Well, if you insist, because I *Obviously* didn't intend this ahead of time.
Ahem
Chapter Xtra: The Making of One Huge Ass Dirt Turtle
PhotobucketSomething to note about this thing: It's big. It's really, REALLY big. The only way to make it was to break it into manageable pieces and hope that they fit together when I was done.
Photobucket
First I made one leg, then I made the other 4 so that they would look more or less the same. That didn't take too long. What WAS rather time consuming was building the shell. By the way, notice how Torterra's shell seems sort of flat from a distance?
Yah, that was an accident. I got my proportions a little of when I started on the shell, and by the time I noticed it was too late to fix. Even so though, I think this flatter shell is part of Torterra's charm, and it certainly makes it easier to climb!
Photobucket
Interesting fact about making that tree: I cut down almost every tree I could see from Torterra to build it (the shore goes straight to a forest) and I still had to grow a tree farm afterwards.
Photobucket
Most of the foilage in the tree was grown in the tree on trees that I grow in the tree.
You got that?
I say most, because I did use some leaf blocks to hide the dirt closer to the bottom and also make the platforming a little safer.
Photobucket
"And I'll form the head!"
The hard part of making the head was actually doing the eyes. It may not occur to you at first, but it is HARD to make something that looks like eyes on a round yet cubey surface.
Photobucket
About the hollow thing. This should be pretty obvious but I'll say it anyway: This thing would have taken thousand and thousands more blocks then it did if it wasn't hollow! Also: I had intended to put Pallet town inside of it more or less right from when I started building it, so solid would have simply not worked.
By the way, something not featured in the tour, the head and Tail each have chambers inside of them that you can reach from inside.
Here's a fun game: B1 is in the above picture. See if you can spot him.
Photobucket
Another building blooper: The Tree and the back-spikes and on the wrong side of each other. I'm not really sure how I managed this, because when I was placing the tree I actually re-layed the roots once because it was in the wrong spot. Even so, I somehow managed to get them in each others spots.
Another thing to mention is the Center spike. I'm not sure how well I pulled this off, but I was trying to make it look like the tip was broken off. This is why it isn't much taller then the other spikes, and this is why it's open so you can see the lava inside.
Photobucket
This is something that is totally small, but I love the shadow that Torterra casts. It looks surprisingly sharp (probably because it's so HUGE) and it actually cuts a pretty good profile of the huge structure above.
One last thing, because I don't think this can be said enough: BE VERY CAREFUL JUMPING OFF STUFF HERE.
The road to the ice is lethal.
The top of the shell (or head (or tail)) to ice is lethal.
The top of the tree to the shell is lethal. And that's all for real this time. I hope you enjoyed the show!
