I didn’t get an email about this, so it slipped me by a little.

Anyway, another of Gotye’s older songs got a video a few weeks ago. “What Do You Want” is from his very first album, Boardface, which even some fans of Gotye aren’t aware exists.

The live visuals for “Smoke And Mirrors” have finally been put up on Gotye’s YouTube page. Like a couple of the visuals for his other songs, it doesn’t have the full effect on its own, as opposed to playing behind his band’s performance, but it’s still fun to look at. Considering “Easy Way Out” had two different videos put up for it, I don’t think it’s unlikely that this will get a proper music video, just as soon as he finds the right people to make it happen.

Oh, and here’s a (very close to) full recording of a show he did in Miami last year. Fantastic quality.

Oh my word, studiomilam/styxyts, that smash-up was amazing!

While I’m also loving the other videos here, I’ve got to admit to being a ‘latecomer’ of a Gotye fan – through the upsurge of his popularity by way of Somebody I Used To Know, thus it holds a “special place”. But yeah, he’s actually really great and I’m glad he’s hit a substantially more “mainstream” exposure through the one song so that others (like me) can learn to enjoy all of his stuff!

EDIT: To clarify, in addition to being an excellent musical piece itself, the fact that Gotye himself took all of his fan-made stuff and turned it into a super-awesome thing is… beautiful. It’s really amazing what a great guy he is, as a person (from what I can tell having never met him, naturally). 🙂

Possibly the only cover of the song that I actually think is worthwhile; and it also doesn’t change my position that it’s impossible to cover that song.
