I haven’t been asked to work on any boat stuff because the only nautical character we’ve got is Cap’n Scrap, and it’s unlikely that the LDs would have brought anything that wasn’t an inflatable Zodiac style boat with them through the farfetch. In my mind there is surely a boat culture on the seas and swamps, and in my (admittedly limited) experience seeing Boat People in the Caribbean and Gulf South, you’ll get cruisers, hot rodders, and working boatmen just like you do with cars. I’ve talked to sailors that are basically doing the same stuff to boats you’re doing to cars (bigger sails on smaller hulls, weight reductions, etc), so most of what we’re doing here would apply. I love some of those hypersepcialized racing boats, and I think it would be cool to work on:

I think the boat situation will be very similar to the car situation, in that there’ll be a mix of both. We have maybe more than the average appreciation for Waterworld around the LD bullpen, so we are all I’m sure opinionated about how it would be. At the moment, the sea is just a watery blue hellscape full of horrorshow mega-monsters, so I’d bet that most boats are going to be shallow-water boats, probably very small so as to avoid catching the interest of anything big enough to eat them. I would also say that if your boat isn’t super fast, it is probably going to be sail-powered so the sound doesn’t attract any attention. Inland boats, like bayou, swamp, and river boats are probably a different story, and would likely not be appreciably different from the kinds of things you can see right now in places like that.

I lived in Louisiana for a couple years, and they have a really interesting boat culture out there. I did a boat ride down a tributary of the Mississippi in a friend’s modern boat, where we went down river a ways, ending up in a wide, shallow spot where everybody would anchor. This was comparable to a football game parking lot tailgate, but the boats ranged from new powerboats like ours to completely scratch-built houseboats floating on pontoons made of welded together propane tanks with odd hand-operated cranes on the back. The water was about chest deep there, and people had propane grills on a pole that were sunk down in the muck so that the grill was just above the water line, and they were cooking out. It was maybe the most regional thing I’ve ever experienced, and I’ll never forget it lol. I’d love to work on some Boat Stuff, but at the current phase of the design, we’re still dialing in the core iconic land vehicles. That being said, I’ll leave you with the boat chase from Live and Let Die:

@maxacree Good move ending with L&LD that’s my go-to unconventional boat chase scene.

@Cap it’s so dope lol. Roughly how often would you say you are called upon to reference an unconventional boat chase? For me the answer is “almost never,” and I wonder what horrible life choices have led me to this boatlessness…

Honorable mention is the subsequent Man with the Golden Gun boat chase:

And for certain the Catch of the Day scene from Waterworld has been discussed:

@maxacree It’s weird, I can’t really remember why, but that scene comes up at least 3 times a year.

So what I’m hearing is that due to overwhelming fan response, season 2 will take place entirely at sea…

    Question time

lets talk Human military tech, how advanced was it, If someone would of found an old world Tank how much of a problem would that person to his enemies, and Would that be the first thing Glampire would seek out when starting his end of the world order

Good question! The short answer is we haven’t defined it yet. Human tech is like a big box of McGuffins so we want to be able to keep our options open. But the longer answer is it’s not likely to be much beyond where the LDs are. Some stuff is better, some stuff is worse between the two, but essentially at the point where the dogs are able to open the Farfetch they’re real damn close. Laser weaponry was state of the art on Earth and the LDs coming from a world where the crystals were better in general means that their gear is better and they were using it for longer. Also, maintenance is no joke, especially with unstable crystals. So pristine Earth tech still packs a wallop – but keeping that hypothetical tank in working order… Glampire probably has one or two, but they’ve been overhauled to make up for not being able to machine new parts. That said, there’s one thing the LDs don’t have a great handle on: atomic energy and related sciences. They know the gist of how it works since there’s a fair amount of basic science to it, but with their planet covered in clean energy sources the dirty stuff wasn’t of much use. They probably had a gas and coal period, but it was short lived.

Oh for sure! After that awful war, they absolutely do. It’s probably called Liberation Day.

I love holiday episodes of shows. It’s always a treat when you’re watching something, and suddenly it’s like Summerween or something. I hope we get to mess around with weird holiday evolutions at some point, though I don’t know that I think they need to be meticulously planned out.

    Question time

If there’s one thing we have plenty of around here, it’s plans.

Hahah yeah. Max’s words ring true. We don’t have anywhere near the amount of material we’d need for a second one… yet. But if this one ends up selling well and our progress goes unimpeded then I can’t see there not being a world with a Sketchbook Two.

    Question time

Since the Lightning Dogs is the name of a military team have you guy thought of other military team names that be on the dog homeworld

That’s been the subject of some debate. Like – the Diamond Dogs weren’t “the diamond dogs” when they came to earth… so what were they called? Certainly a group called “The Lightning Dogs”, based on their mythology, isn’t exclusive to our group. Were the DDs the *first* LDs? We don’t know yet. Haven’t committed to anything nor have we come up with other team names in general.
