In one of the last episodes someone brought up the idea of a treacherous schemer possible backstabber subordinate archetype for Halloween Jack. Do you guys have someone looking to take control of Jack’s forces when he is out of the picture or just when his back is turned(for example someone like starscream), or someone who is secretly working of an unknown third team (someone like Tarantulas)?
The treacherous schemer archetype is one of my favorite character types and with every bit of fiction I take in, I try to find that treacherous schemer archetype and try to compare them to great lord Starscream king of the treacherous schemer backstabber archetype.

Well… Jack is definitely Starscream in a lot of ways. The difference is he’d take what Glampire has if he could, BUT he’s not actively plotting against hm like Starscream would – he’s more of an opportunist. Jack’s crew is actually a big focus of ours right now and though we have yet to pin down a player with that backstabber vibe, it’s a near certainty.March 31, 2016 at 4:51 pm #52200
Just gonna put this out there… Lightning Dogs fans are gonna want to have a listen to the latest Nerdy Show episode: https://nerdyshow.com/multiverse/March 31, 2016 at 7:04 pm #52206
@Cap it’s been 200 years since our last caller
I liked that bit also like that you guys are going with the space debris route by the looks of it.

Well, space debris was the official statement, that’s not necessarily indicative of what it actually is. I find it somehow fitting that the apocalypse rang in to Kenny Loggins.
Also if you’re going downtown the traffic is clear for miles and miles. I loved that line.
Unless there’s another 404 that I’m unaware of (living on the east coast my whole life) I find it interesting that WOLF was broadcasting in CA.
Although it is an alternate universe.
Edit: actually, one quick google search later and I realize I was thinking of a different road entirely. NevermindMarch 31, 2016 at 8:08 pm #52210
I got asked on facebook if these were “canon”. My answer is “soft canon”. More of a proof of concept but 99.9 WOLF and the stuff falling from the sky – that’s all legit.April 3, 2016 at 6:33 am #52219Shaded SpriterParticipant
Something which I just thought of while thinking about the multiverse episode.
The way that the Lightning Dogs know some stuff/talk english. – One thing apart from dogs which was certainly taken through the far fetch – a Voyager Golden Record analogue. Looking at some of the images on the actual record it is interesting what they could know and some of it can be used for the Master religious symbology for episode cover art.

@shaded-spriter I’m a huge fan of the Sagans’ Golden Record. One of my earliest articles on CoS was on that subject: http://consequenceofsound.net/2009/02/audio-archaeology-the-voyager-golden-record-1977/
The dog-folk have both a more complicated and in many ways more simplified reason as to why they also speak English and have a rudimentary knowledge of human culture: their planet is LITTERED with Master tech. The work that was being done on their world was comprehensive and fully abandoned. By the time the dogs are fully bipedal and sentient much of that tech is buried, but there’s enough around that there’s all kinds of items from mundane to complex that they can glean varying levels of significance from.April 6, 2016 at 5:29 pm #52276
It’s question time
Thanks to shaded-spriter I wanted to ask, with a lot of post apocalyptic stories you can find a lot of crazy slang, new made up languages or something simple like broken speech patterns.
Are we going to see something like that in Lightning Dogs?
i keep imagining Terra Calling the Lightning Dogs Lost children of the wolf or something.

Everyone in the Wasteland is gonna be a little off, that’s for sure. We’re not looking at Riddley Walker or Clockwork Orange levels of dialect here, likely not even as far as The Fringe in Liberty, but we suspect as the scripts develop there might be some fun quirks and naming conventions that’ll develop. We don’t want the show to have a learning curve, I guess you could say.
For characters like the plant creature, or any others who are EXTRA outside the norm, there’s all kinds of room to express a very different perception of things through their dialogue. Though with that character in particular, it might be a while before it actually decides communicating on the LDs level is something worth its time. Might lead more by action than talk.April 8, 2016 at 9:40 am #52289DougParticipant
Something else to consider: Lightning Dogs is aiming to be family friendly. Children may have a hard time following the show if every other wastelander sounds like they’re using a variation on Esperanto or Cityspeak to communicate. Also, a spoken language insinuates there is a “society”, and a society suggests “organization.” It wouldn’t be a wasteland if there is too much intelligent life present.

Seems like novelty speech patterns would really skirt the line with the “No Snarfs” mandate as well. I would hope that you wouldn’t see EVERYbody in the wasteland talking crazy, but assigning a weirdness to one group has some precedent. Like the lost kids in Thunderdome, or those little Prairie People in BraveStarr (who are The Worst – skip to 2:20):

with voice acting I’m pretty sure a lot of the roles are going to fall to the in house folks, So are you guys going to have auditions for some roles or all roles?
Also do you guys have a back up plan in case a voice actor can’t do a part?
It's about "SHOW TIME" so drop by http://demonlordm.deviantart.com/April 14, 2016 at 1:05 am #52334
Full blown auditions across the board. And it’ll not just be a matter of do we like the voice, but also whether or not they can be reliable. The real trick with that is… though we’re going to our in-house people for major roles first and foremost because that’s affordable and easy, in order to put on the best show we WILL need to get local Orlando actors. I mean, for example I don’t think anyone from the hosts, the fanbase, etc. has it in them to do the voice Angela needs. I could be wrong, and I’ll give everyone a fair try, but I’m planning to go hunting to get this right.
The only voice that I feel is a lock is our good ol’ W*O*L*F* A.I. I think @doug does an incredible spin on the Wolfman Jack voice that’s both derivative and his own and I want to hold onto that. But last we talked on the matter he wasn’t wholly convinced.
