I’m not so sure Queen Lich would have tried to bring back the human race as they were, but I could see an undead army of minions for sure. I like the idea of a post-Borg robot-zombie army. The Crystal Head guys sound like the faceless androids from Disney’s The Black Hole a little bit to me (in a good way, that is a slept-on movie)

Kinda makes me think that they’d look something akin to the Astronaut Ghost from Scooby Doo, except they have dark energy bodies contained in containment suits with crystal skulls as the focus. They also have the helmet either on or open, or off, depending on how strong they are. They could also have different sized suits, depending on their roles in Queen Litch’s army.

Taking a bit of a cue from the rather awful cartoon Skeleton Warriors, but what if these crystaloids can reattach limbs that break off, or swap them around? Might be a good toy gimmick.

On a note, never actually watched The Black Hole, but I have heard of it. I’ll have to give it a watch.

When I say that movie is “great,” what I mean is that it has a robot in it that was made in Texas, and therefore has a Texas accent. Also the theme song is NES Back To the Future levels of repetitive and catchy. And the exact moment when the budget ran out is captured onscreen when everyone goes to what appears to be robot hell at the end. You know, what everybody means when they say something is “great.”

I love that this conversation is spontaneously back in effect. Queen Lich is an interesting character because she has a lot of power at her command and is a cunning villain, but is also betrayed by her own madness to some degree.

When it comes to resurrecting humanity, it is some degree of a motivation of her’s but one that she can’t consent to do the right way. They’ve always got to be better. And first and foremost her vanity demands that she’s her main focus – getting back the humanity she lost, which she ultimately can’t retain because she herself is no longer human in any sense, she’s a monster. Even if she got a hold of an undiluted human gene to cultivate, she couldn’t resist dabbling with it.

For her henchfolk we’ve actually got something very similar in mind to what @deearris suggested. Whatever their final form is, it’ll be based around the concept of the action figure line associated with Queen Lich would all have appendages that attach via magnets or pegs. (I’ve seen some really great indie figures lately using concealed magnets for limb-swappping and it’s so so perfect). This is super-rough and a bit more haywire and animal-focused than I think we might go for in final iterations, but here’s a sketch local-shop and I worked up of a Lich Mutate:

It’s kinda like an army of genetic and cybernetic scrap. Like the “kill me” scene in Alien Resurrection plus early 90s era TMNT figures.

The astronaut ghost trope (especially in the Hanna Barbera style) is something we’re pulling from heavily when it comes to Space Boy. Basically mash the Hanna Barbera stuff up with 2001 A Space Odyssey and Event Horizon and there you go.

I personally have never pictured any henchmen for Queen Lich. I just assumed she was more of a powerful loner. A little more mobile and creepy that way. It’s like Glampire would love to harness her power or get her to work for him, but she’s crazy and can’t be controlled. I don’t know how she could run an “army” of followers. Unless she has a zoo of mindless beastly freaks.

@doug I could see her having a few generals that would run a small army for her, becuase I see her as someone who might need a lot of resources for her experiments and she might not be able to focus on more them five tasks at a time.

@cap I was thinking what if Queen Lich had the ability to take full control of any of her foot soldiers and use a temporary body.

the worst part is I have a really awesome idea how they might look like….. NOW OFF TO MANGA STUDIO

here some undead cyborg underlings design I had in my head
the one on the left is a basic foot soldier with a robotic arm where a missing one might be. The one on the right is a heavy trooper with another creature’s arm replacing his missing one. In between are different types of heads they might have under their face plates, oh speaking of face plates I had an idea that Queen Lich would project her own face on to it if she uses one of the soldiers as temporary body

I’ve been taking a break from my own projects and refreshing my mind with some brianstorming of character concepts and because I was on a Ligthning Dogs kick already, why not come up with some lackey concepts. I always the loved the idea of toy lines where you can parts off toy vehicles and using them as armor and weapons for action figures, a Biker using a motorcycle’s windshield as a shield was the starting Idea for this.

From the windshield shield idea I had the idea the person who should use it would be a giant, and it was going to be mutant Giant wild russian sheboar because I liked the concept of a Hog riding a hog. But when you think about it there are already plenty of Pig people characters, so I changed her to a weird Sasquatch hippo rhino thing that wears a helmet that looks like a boar’s head.

Then I thought it would be interesting if her hand had armor plates and where to big to fix her own three wheeler so she has a little rat bat sidekick to be her own personal mechanic and tracker.

the bottom right is a height chart

I like it. Kind of makes me think anthropomorphic Mad Max, which is great considering the whole post-apocalyptic setting.

Reminds me of the Dreadnok Cycle a little bit:

I can’t decide if I do or don’t like how much the Henchmen remind me of the Wicked Witch of the West guardsmen from Wizard of Oz. They seem a little bulkier than I imagine a necromancer’s minions ought to. Like I feel like a Lich ought to have a skeleton army, you know?

I was going off the whole mad scientist angle of Queen lich and was going for frankenstein’s monster in medieval armor look, but I see a nightmarish skeleton like infiltrator class. I do see how they look like the winkie guards, is it the heavy trooper’s battle skirt.

You ever see The Black Cauldron? It’s a pretty hard to come by Disney movie that Don Bluth did before leaving, but they’ve got what I picture when I think of a necromancer’s army in there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWAq4w1h–M

@max the problem with a straight up skeleton army is that Queen lich isn’t a magical Lich, but one who is a lich through Mad/super science, and I feel a normal skeleton army wouldn’t fit well. We would need a cool mad scientist of getting a skeleton army

I don’t know that I am 100% on board with that either. What do you suppose a Borg looks like with all the organics rotted away? All the servos probably still work, and they probably have a bone frame for all the electronics to hang on. But if you’re going to call her Queen Lich, and not use anything that comes along with the term “lich” that everyone knows, you’re setting your audience up for cognitive dissonance I think.
