Trench
KeymasterNot entirely sure what just yet, but something seems to have happened with the computer that runs the server.

ParticipantNot sure if we’re on the same wavelength, but if I’m picking up what Trench is putting down, the whole bit’s laggy as hell since the version update.

ParticipantOk – a couple things;
-nether appears to be gone. (reset)
-Spawn and some areas beyond are still fucked up from some <span style=”text-decoration:underline;”>MAJOR</span> grief (the lava around spawn was cleaned but there remains flows over structures away down the roads, and some of the cobble remains, not to mention all the extremely smashed structures I can’t even begin to piece back togeather). Is there any word on what was discussed on the Lawman boards? I hesitate to bring it up here – but there’s been a lot of no official word there.
-I seem to say this every single time, so at the risk of being a broken record: Can we please, please wait at least a month after a big update before updating the server without a functioning plugin update?! With Minecraft’s (relatively) new launcher, it is easier than ever to set the client’s version to match the server’s. The old problems of some users updating and not being able to connect to the server is no longer an issue. As we have seen, our ability to deal with a large scale attack is already delayed and reactionary at best if we aren’t lucky enough to have someone online to catch them in the act. Without plugins, we can’t reliably do anything even IF we happen to be online at the same time as the offending person(s). I (for one) am typically a good 10+ minute creative-mode flight back to spawn from my current base of operations (could be less, but like I said, the nether is out of order right now).
(I understand that it is probably too late now, as 1.8 resources already exist in the world, although if a rollback were to occur….. just saying.)September 14, 2014 at 10:50 am #42072Jon
KeymasterThere essentially will be no more bukkit updates, they are embroiled in a massive legal and inner drama filled mess right now, and I doubt they’ll manage to get their collective shit back together. So, bukkit essentially doesn’t exist. As for the nether thing, that’s my fault, I need to swap the files around again, I thought I had gotten them in the right places but dim-1 vs dim1 isn’t exactly descriptive titles if you get my meaning.
Now, as for what we are doing post bukkit, I have a plan that I’ve already put into action, with more coming shortly. For now Spawn has been moved, again, lol. This time for a slightly different but related reason. We have moved spawn before to essentially get new players, and with them the griefers as far away from our builds as possible, so that the damage would be somewhat contained within an area. Of course with rail and nether gates they can spread rather rapidly. Using the incredible powers of command blocks I have orchestrated a field of sorts that should stop virtually all griefing. If a noob goes out past ~450m from new new new spawn they will be unable to break a flower do to a status effect, at ~475m their inventory gets cleared. These effects are constant until they return to the island. This does not effect registered users (unless I mistyped your name, super sorry, contact me and I’ll try to replace your stuff?), and should allow noobs to go and see our great builds, While keeping the crazies at bay. The registration system will continue to function, this time with a little bit of a different tint, but still very close to it’s original function. In addition, I have also disabled mob grieifing and fire spreading.
Transportation in a post warp world is a bit annoying, however since we went to 1.8 I have had in place a secret teleporter network spread between the spawns. Now that the fields are active I can make the warp network a bit more ‘visible’, and expand the networks reach. I have converted one of my structures into a Nexus that has gates to the four spawns, with the return gates hidden near each spawn, but the structure was never made to hold warps, and certainly not as many as we need. I have the coordinates for the old warp points on my computer and will slowly rebuild the network, ultimately adding gates to new locations as well. We have a unique opportunity now to build a new transportation network in the world, and so we will need to build a true Nexus hub that is well organized, and of the appropriate size to let people easily traverse the vastness of the server. So I invite all of you to begin discussions as to the location, organization and architectural flare of this new structure(s) and the gates within. All we mechanically need for a gate is a command block, a block on top of it, then a pressure plate, that’s it. Another point of discussion, each command block sends someone one way, only by making another gate on the other side do we have a two way connection. There is a design opportunity to make novel connections that aren’t simple two ways, however for sanity two way gates will probably be the preferred style.

KeymasterThe nether and the end have been restored, and tested.

ParticipantAs these seems to be as good a time as any, I’m going to bring up the old controversial topic:
Should we reset the server?
Personally, I’m in the “for” category.
Guess who, it's Kaosubaloo!

ParticipantI would be for this is we can access the old Server in some way. I do enjoy the things I’ve built. I can re-build stuff or new stuff. I wouldn’t be against it.

ParticipantI’d be for resetting the server. When I finally got a computer that could run minecraft I went on the server, but so much had already been done it was kinda overwhelming. A clean start would be nice.

KeymasterThe server is likely down at the moment. There’s been some Internet hiccups.

ParticipantAh, so that was Jon I was talking to that day. Didn’t recognize the handle, mostly because I never see you on the server. Sorry for the lukewarm reception, I had no idea it was you!

ParticipantAs much as it pains me to leave all that i’ve worked on, I’m gonna throw my pennies in and say yeah, we need to change up our server. I think we should go in a direction that planetminecraft did back in the classic mode. The spawn being for new people; they can only build in the 100-200(or 500 or something) block radius around spawn, and those that play nice get promoted and can claim their own territory for themselves. It’s not the perfect model, but it would practically eliminate the grief problems of the large builds. we could also set up a temporary grid zone specifically for buildathons. they would be judged and then the top 3 would be placed in a ‘winner’ zone, and the temp zone would reset(manually I would assume, not sure what i think about auto deleting specific spaces on a timer).
EDIT: nvm, didn’t see the new ip address
Now where did I put that invisible tower again?

KeymasterAs I believe I said above, there is a system in effect now that has done as you said, noobs can build near spawn, if they prove themselves they can move on. Except I gave them a v1.8 island in the middle of the ocean about 3/4 of a square kilometer…
