I swear, if this doesn’t crush the rest of the top 20 list either this year or next year, there’s something wrong with you guys.

Hendo Hoverboards – The World’s First Real Hoverboard

Set to be released on — when else? — October 10, 2015. The day Marty McFly travels to the future.

Probably sounds a bit like an industrial vacuum on a megaphone.

Aside from being conjecture, what’s your point?

It produces magnetic fields to lift the board of the ground, so it probably has a distinctive hum instead of an industrial motor.

Also a few articles mentioned that it only works on conductive surfaces.

That must mean that by 10/10/15 we’ll have a robotic revolution, the humans will win (obviously), and the metallic corpses of said robots will be ground into every surface we can walk on. Just to remind us of our dominance of this planet. The 1955 use of the hover board worked because of lead paint (obviously).

    Wait, it’s not a hovercraft?

Should probably have read the article but.. meh.

It is super neat, and the actual device is really well designed aesthetically. At this early stage, it seems to suffer from the problem all hovering things do in that it is very challenging to turn with nothing but air to act on it, making it of limited value as a mode of transportation. Looks more like skim boarding than skateboarding. Putting it into more of a bobsled-like track seems like it would make for a crazy experience!

The Kickstarter itself admits as much; they’re going to build a hoverpark for it. It’s still a good start so far.

@jessica has an article on this coming out tomorrow morning!

Pretty stoked that after all the fake-outs recently someone developed something that’s actually functional (at least to some degree) and actually a hoverboard. Lots of great alternate applications too!

I guess as far as the Top 20 list goes the trick is… what year will it really earn it’s stripes? I’m leaning towards next year. Then it’ll be more than a proof of concept, people will have ridden it, and it will have fulfilled the BttF2 prophecy.

Ok, it’s nothing like industrial vacuum cleaner…

Just a regular old Satan’s clawed hand on a chalkboard.
