Did you know it’s possible to send your Pokemon from as early as the GBA series to your copies of X and Y?
It’s possible, but it takes some doing…

    You just need…
Any main series Gen III Pokemon game (FR/LG/R/S/E)
A DS model that still has a GBA slot (Original model or DS lite)
a Gen IV Pokemon game where you have progressed far enough to unlock Pal Park (acquired the nationaldex)
a Gev V Pokemon game where you have unlocked transfers (acquired the nationaldex)
A second DS (any model) or a 3DS(preferable)
    Pokemon X or Y and a 3DS/2DS
Pokemon Transporter (3DSware available when X/Y launches)

First off, it doesn’t matter how far you’ve progressed in your GBA, you can transfer any pokemon that is in one of your PC boxes and does NOT know any HMs.
Just load that game into your DS’s GBA slot and start up your Gen IV game(D/P/Pl/HG/SS). If you’ve unlocked Pal Park, there will be an option at the start screen to ‘Transfer from X version,’ select that and pick your 6 Pokemon.

Note that this transfer is ONE WAY and impossible to reverse. You can also only transfer 1 group of 6 Pokemon every 24 hours, do NOT attempt to adjust your DS’s clock, the game will know the clock has been altered and you will have to wait ANOTHER 24 hours. Once that is done, load your Gen IV game and go to Pal Park.

    Recapture your 6 chosen Pokemon.

Now boot up your Gen V game (B/W/B2/W2), go to the big orange building in route 15. (It’s faster if you fly to white forest/black city and go West) From there follow the instructions to transfer your Pokemon from gen IV to Gen V. After beating the annoying capture game you are all set to transfer your Pokemon over to X/Y once the transfer system is live (and you’ve accomplished whatever in game requirements X/Y will likely have)

You can only transfer 6 Pokemon per GBA game per day to Pal Park, however, once your Pokemon are on a Gen IV game you move as many Pokemon to Gen V as you like. Also if you have more than one Gen IV game, you can send 6 more Pokemon over to that game every day. The limit is on the game receiving the Pokemon, not the one sending them.

Pokemon on GB/GBC games (R/B/Y/G/S/C) cannot be transferred as they are incompatible with any of the games beyond Gen III. Besides, they redid every Pokemon’s base stats for Gen III, so your old GB Pokemon would be woefully underpowered anyways.

HMs CAN be deleted, you just have to find the move deleter for your game.

You can also use this method to send over Pokemon from the Gamecube games Pokemon Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness, just send your purified Shadow Pokemon over to your GBA games first (requires an actual GBA and a GBA/GC link cable).

Read: What I’ve been doing for that last 6 months.

    Guess who, it's Kaosubaloo!

Also it’s finally been announced that Pokemon Bank, the Pokemon cloud storage system will be released in the US on December 27th, it comes with a 30 day free trial if you get it before Feb 1st. After that the system, including PokeTransfer, will cost 4.99 a year.

The Pokemon bank allows you to store up to 3000 Pokemon in the cloud. This is likely going to be the system used to move Pokemon from generation to generation from now on. However, you still need to move your Pokemon to a Gen V game in order to send them to the cloud, as it only supports Gen V and beyond.

I’ve been doing this for years now. Mike helped me fill in my pokedex a few years ago with some missing Poke’mon. I’ve transferred everything from my ruby to every following generation. I plan on sending them to Y when the poketransporter comes out. We’ll have to start getting some friend codes out there soon.

    Well my mind’s blown.

    A few quick notes:
-The Pokemon Bank was released in Japan yesterday and will be here on the 27th.
-If you get it by September 30th you get a lvl 10 Celebi
-PokeTransporter, the tool for moving Pokemon from Gen V games, only lets you transfer Pokemon from Box 1 in your PC.
-You can choose to send the entire box if you wish, but partial transfers are also possible.
-You get 100 Pokemiles or 10 BP for moving an entire box.
-Poketransporter takes up 218 blocks of memory.

Nintendo has delayed the release of Pokemon Bank in the Nintendo eshop due to heavy network traffic. The release date is currently TBD.
