I’m only 14 minutes in so far, but I peeked at the playlist hoping that Tiny Tim would be on this and you did not disappoint. This is hitting the same spot in my heart as the mixtape I got a while ago of fake Beatles bootlegsMay 9, 2012 at 12:12 am #22115MaxParticipant
This was a great episode, I was really hoping for some Bubba Ho-Tep references, but in retrospect I can’t really think of any that would have made sense. The Dread Zeppelin track at the end was dope for sure.May 9, 2012 at 1:29 pm #22140
@Gimpeyjoe: Fake Beatles bootlegs? I knew that these things were prevalent, but enough to fill a decent mixtape, eh? I’m intrigued…
@Max: I love the idea of Bubba Ho-Tep, but I’ve never made it through without falling asleep. And if you know my history of insomnia, that’s really saying something. Is it something I should power through in chunks for an assumingly worthwhile payoff?May 9, 2012 at 1:58 pm #22143
I’m going to have to check an older computer to find it, but it was a 14 tracks, if I recall correctly
Failed search attempts at least pulled up this:

@Gimpeyjoe: Funny you should mention that, as there maaaaaayyy be a Beatles cover episode in the works.
Also, ain’t WFMU grand?May 9, 2012 at 2:58 pm #22145AnonymousInactive
If you do a Beatles cover episode look up the Beatle’s cover band that did the a cover of Stairway to Heaven. I can’t say how good it was but it has always stuck in my ear’s mind.
Listening to the Elvish-isode now.May 9, 2012 at 3:26 pm #22147

@mark, I find it extremely amusing, but if it didn’t have you at hello, it probably isn’t going to grab you by goodbye.May 9, 2012 at 7:46 pm #22161TheBigBadShadowManParticipant

Beatles covers, eh? This is a bit of a side step, but have you ever heard of the “Wings” song “Love Take Me Down to the Streets”? It’s one of my favorite music jokes in recent years:May 10, 2012 at 1:13 am #22176
Woah, that Beatles covers idea seems like it has legs. It was just something I was compiling and toying with, but it sounds like there’s quite a bit of interest in it. I’ll take the idea a bit more seriously!
@anduin Do you have a link for that cover of Stairway To Heaven?
@gimpeyjoe I have never heard EITHER of those things, and they sound right up my alley for that type of episode. This’ll be a toughie to compile because pretty much every artist that has more than ten songs under their belt references the group at some point, you know?
@thebigbadshadowman Thanks a lot! My wife had the idea, I simply did the legwork. Once she mentioned it, there was kinda no way I couldn’t tackle it.
@cap Holy crap, I had never heard that song as a stand alone track, and as a massive fan of Wings… yeah. They nailed it. Sounds like a London Town-era outtake, but… good. (Love Wings, but that album is one of McCartney’s few clunkers to my ears).May 10, 2012 at 1:14 am #22178
Also, at this point, I could likely do a month of Beatles themed episodes (all different topics) and never actually play a note by the group themselves.May 10, 2012 at 7:17 am #22197AnonymousInactive
Here is the video link where I heard the cover. It reminds me of the early Beatles sound, and although the group seems to use some of the cliche Beatle sounds, it is still a catchy tune.May 10, 2012 at 1:55 pm #22215
