ParticipantHey, everyone. I’ve been concepting this project over the last few years and finally got around to starting/funding it.
My goal is to write the character as if anyone could step into his shoes. He isn’t rich, he doesn’t have super powers, he’s not highly skilled. Just a guy that kind of stumbles into vigilantism. It’s a long form story, currently in black and white. I’ll convert it to color if I can find it in the budget.
It’s weekly updated on Wednesdays and the first two pages are up. I’d love to hear what you guys think so far.

Participant@Cap Thanks! Yeah, I think I lucked out getting Alberto on the project. He just took over being artist on http://propellercomic.com as well. It’s 13 pages in and totally worth a read.

Participantthe art is really clean, you may want to consider making the pagination controls a bit more prominent, or add something like a “jump to the beginning” control for new readers. It took me a second to figure out how to get off that page to the previous. Did you guys write the viewer yourselves, or is it a plugin of some kind? I’m considering moving my comic off of smackjeeves.com into my own site, but I haven’t really looked too closely into viewer options yet.

Participant@maxacree yeah i’ll definitely be adding a jump to the first page button and making the navigation buttons more prominent.
The viewer is WordPress with the ComicPress theme. Then I just changed up the code a bit. Pretty easy to do.
I dabbled with SmackJeeves with some of my older comic strips but really didn’t like the site. I don’t like Drunk Duck or any of the free hosts honestly.

Participantyeah I’m kind of indifferent to smackjeeves in terms of what it offers-it’s definitely good if you’re staying on that cheap-to-free plan. Now that I’m thinking of taking the comic a little more seriously I think I’d prefer to get it all onto my own site.

ParticipantIt’s better to host on your own because you have full control over everything and if you want to run ads you dont have to worry about the parent host running their own. Plus, you can keep much better stats of your page then what free comic hosts offer.

ParticipantDidn’t want to spam the forums so I stopped posting about it but:
Uploaded page #22, final page of issue one of Civilian! Still working on getting over the fact that I made a full comic issue.
