    Good Morning NerdyFolk!

I’m kind of done keeping up with the constant DA (Deviant Art) drama & rampant theft and I was wondering if anyone else had any other art communities that they had heard of that were a little better about you know, not being a whole drama/attention whore pit of inequity?

    Thanks!

Well, it’s hard. I mean- it’s the interwebs. Drama and art theft are rampant, period. BUT- dA is a hotbed and pretty much anywhere is better than there for posting art without someone crying over something somewhere. That said, it IS a hotbed and I know many comic book authors who start their searches for new collaborators on dA because it’s so easy to search and maybe even stalk someone enough to see if they’re cool enough (personally) to bother with.

Tumblr is a great alternative though. It’s easy to restrict your blog so you generally only have interactions with people that you invite on yourself and many art communities have thrived there (including being cherry-picked by comics folk and publishing houses – think Boom’s Cartoon Network comics).

Personally, I left dA years ago and just started posting my work to flickr. But since I haven’t been in a position to actively promote myself as an artist for a long time, being off the beaten path with a digital gallery I enjoy more than dA works for me. If I was in a position to want or need to connect with arts communities for my own career then I’d probably make a point of keeping my flickr gallery up, but reactivating my dA and rejiggering my Tumblr to be more of an art space exclusively.

Actually, I for one would love to see what kind of creative things the forum members are up to.
Maybe there should be a post for links to that sort of stuff?

I think that there was at one point a more active “Arts community” on here, Lets bring that shizzy back.@Cap I have a tumblr, but I haven’t really been posting on it lately, I really wish Deviant Art was way less shitty tho… Theres something about a level of art that exists without just every person ever being allowed to join. I am a whiner I guess… But we need nerdyart.com or something.

As far as productive users and low drama go, the Penciljack forum is pretty great for sketchbook postings and finished art, plus advice and feedback. People are generally chill and supportive, things are up to date and mods do a good job.

Tumblr has been pretty good lately, you can completely control your experience with other users and create multiple blogs. Domain names can be attached too, and it’s also easy to set up a decent portfolio with themes like Hasaportfolio. Just make sure to add a signature on all art you post there.

It’d be cool if the Nerdyforums had a devoted creative section for what listeners and the community are up to with art/music/etc, unless keeping it to threads on specific shows or topics is enough for now.

We can’t implement any gallery features easily at the moment, but if you guys want to appropriate the Arts & Culture heading as a place to post art – I think that would rock. If you think a separate category is needed, we can work that too.

It depends on what kind of art you’re doing, but there are a lot of places like Polycount, CGSociety, or CGHub that are mostly professional digital artists where a lot of game industry folks congregate.

@Cap D’oh, I forgot the forums already had one. How could it not?

I only use tumblr anymore. I recently deleted my DA after 10 years of existence. When i was in highschool there was a site called Sheezyart that i used to post to but i stopped using it long ago. I think it still exists but the community isn’t really that great.

I’m all for posting more art to the Arts and Culture section!

I actually have to admit, this post is inspired in part because of Kaymonstar, I was flipping through Nerdyshow shizzy and saw your stuff, and literally started following you on DA the day before you deleted your account. Thankfully I managed to find your stuff on tumblr. I think that the general consensus is that we A) Need to start building up the Nerdyshow Art and Culture section, and B) I just need to be posting my stuff on my tumblr.

    XD What timing!
But yeah, anymore i just post everything on tumblr. I never really utilized the DA community to its fullest so i don’t feel too bad about deleting it. I met a lot of awesome people on there though, that’s the saddest part. Most of the people i met are people i talk to outside of the website anyway.

I think we should definitely start beefin up the Art and Culture section. What’s your tumblr so i can make sure i follow it @Matasm?
