Neil Young and Crazy Horse’s new album is a wildly off-kilter take on lots of songs of our youth (or the youth of lots of your parents). They used old public-domain footage to make the videos for the songs. This one — which claims to be a REJECTED video — is a strangely compelling (yet nerdish) take on “Clementine”. Huckleberry Hound would be appalled….
Besides the driving Crazy Horse sound, the “old folk songs” included in the album (“Americana”) include a lot of lines that we didn’t know as kids. For example in that version of Clementine, after she drowns he sings “How I missed her, how I missed her Clementine. Then I kissed her little sister and I forgot her, Clementine.”
