With Nerdy.Fm ending, I’m kind of wondering if it would be possible to make some of the exclusive tracks available somewhere. I can think of a few I’d love to still have available to me, like those Chamber Band exclusives or a few of the Geekeasy live performances.

Actually thinking about it now, I’d love to be able to see a list of the station’s complete catalog so I could make note of what I’m missing from my personal collection. I try to support the artists whenever I can, but I know there have been plenty of times where I forgot to take note of a song or artist I liked figuring I’d do it next time. Now that I know there very soon WON’T be a next time I’m getting antsy to update my playlists.

Nice. It’s great to hear you guys are on top of these things. In the back of my head I know you’re putting a lot more thought into this than even what we hear in the brainstorming sessions, and that since there’s such a huge gap between when sessions were recorded and when they actually air that there’s a lot we the audience just don’t know about yet, but questioning whether Narisa was a necessary character given her lack of serious development felt like it had to be done, even if just for the assurance that you guys do in fact know what you’re doing with her.

I love all the world building you guys have been doing, but going back to the main cast, I feel like there’s a rather harsh question that needs to be asked. Is Narisa really necessary? I’ve loved her character since the very first sketch, but in every episode that has discussed the Lightning Dogs it feels like she either gets ignored completely or she receives the dregs of whatever is the topic of discussion. Any time powers, weapons, team roles or any type of group dynamic is discussed, she always seems like an afterthought, given whatever role is needed for the team to feel balanced. The result is a bit of a blank slate of a character, someone who doesn’t have any personality of their own. Maybe this is just because the exercise where you guys were trying to establish the main cast’s personalities and bios was interrupted before you got to her, but you didn’t get to Kane Korso either and his character seems much more firmly established than hers. Maybe it’s just that you haven’t gotten around to talking about her at length on air, but until it’s shown that she’s contributing something to the team that you couldn’t just as easily assign to someone else, it feels to me like she’s only there to keep the gender ratio even.

Got to be honest, I’m really not looking forward to this one. I actually read Handmaid’s Tale for a unit on dystopian literature in high school, and though all the selections were pretty dull, Handmaid’s Tale had been particularly bad. The morals it was trying to instill were just too heavy handed in my opinion. Maybe it’s just because anything where religion or societal norms are used as an excuse for oppression is really off putting for me. Nonetheless, I’m willing to give it another shot for the sake of book club, or at least go over a cliff notes version of it before the next episode. Given that it’s been almost a decade since then, I may find it more tolerable now than I had as a teenage girl.

I’ve been wondering this for awhile now, but what exactly are the Lightning Dogs’ short term goals with fighting Glampire? Long term seems like it’s to stop him from returning home/expanding his empire into the galaxy, but short term their goals seem less clear. Are they focusing on some semblance of the original mission, trying to determine if this truly is Earth and what happened to make things this way? Are they trying to find a way to contact their home planet, either to warn them away or call for reinforcements? (that one seems unlikely as it defeats the purpose of them blowing up their ship to prevent the technology from falling into Glampire’s hands) Are they going around liberating villages and building up an army to mount a resistance against him? (Again, unlikely, because most of the native population in their area seems to be Jack’s underlings who wouldn’t make the best allies, and making it clear they intend to overthrow Glampire would probably just barely upgrade their threat level enough that he’d use a real show of force to put them in their place and not just constantly let minions handle it for him.) Maybe it’s just because I’m barely too young to remember what the Thundercats did week to week besides fight Mum-ra’s latest plan, but it seems like as things are the LD are only reacting to their surroundings, without any goals they’re working towards of their own.

@kaosubaloo You’re right, I’d definitely expect it to still be in rotation on Nerdy.Fm. I was just mentioning a podcast episode I knew it had been played on because @downwardspiral had specifically mentioned that he couldn’t remember what show or episode he’d heard it on. I suppose it’s possible he’d actually heard it on Nerdy.Fm and forgot that it hadn’t been in any specific shows he listened to, but since I knew of at least one show that had played it I thought referencing it might jog his memory.

    @cap
The artwork for that song is amazing. I’ll listen to it once I’m in a place I can do that, but I already think I’ll really like it.

Loving this so much, but question: Have I spoiled things for myself by looking through the character sheets? For example When looking over Cyril’s sheet, I noticed that his hit point counter has -2 circled, presumably from a future encounter that will not end well for him. Since I personally don’t know the system very well I could just be misinterpreting what different numbers mean, but is this a case where I really would have been better off saving this sort of behind-the-scenes information for once the series is finished?

I think I’ve got you covered Spiral. You’re probably thinking of “Swamp Witch” by Random Encounter from their album Let Me Tell You a Story. It was featured on episode zero on The Nerd Groove, though I don’t recall if it was ever played on any episodes of any other show on the network. That one had stood out for me in particular and it’s still one of my favorites of theirs.

Enjoyed this a lot. Pleasantly surprised to hear that BP Jack is staying on for at least a little while longer, Cap’s fop voice is always fun to hear and probably a nice change of pace for him from Jamela. Glad to know that Barty isn’t automatically doomed to a hairy fate, although what is in store for him we have to wait and see. Super excited by the implication that Gladriel still has her machinations in the works for our heroes if I’m reading between the lines correctly in that last scene. If there’s one thing I wish for it would be inclusion of the B Team in their plans, since we know that Deen was supposed to go find Ryllatrix and Izzy as backup, but then again one can’t expect plans involving other PCs to go the way you’d hope, especially not ones with Deen at the helm. I do hope they’ll be making another appearance before the end of the book though.

And care package sent! A store employee I chatted with mentioned that Frito-Lay only guarantees their products freshness for six weeks after their arrival in the store, but hopefully they remain good for long enough after that you’ll be able to enjoy some taco-goodness in a future episode. Expect a package sometime in the next week to ten days.

My schedule’s pretty open, so when isn’t much of an issue, although time zones will be a factor since I live on the West Coast. What system is used is a more important issue for me though. Since I only started playing tabletop games a few years ago I have a vary limited knowledge of game systems. The only systems I’ve had a lot of experience with as a player are Savage Worlds and 4th edition DnD. I had one disastrous experience GMing a game with Sagas (Word to the wise, never try to do a pickup game with a system none of the players but you are familiar with) and I’ve read the rulebooks but never played a handful of other lesser known systems. Although I’d love to learn more systems, especially the more popular ones like Pathfinder, doing so while at the same time familiarizing myself with an entire group of people I’ve never gamed with before sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Basically I’m intrigued by the proposal, but unless it looks like I’d have something to contribute to the group, you might be better off without me.

Some friends and I got on the subject of shitty fanfiction and one of them offered up one that I thought I could add here. The author claims to have written this while drunk, though it could just as easily be a trollfic for all I can tell. In any case, it’s short, at only five chapters with only about two paragraphs each you might be able to get it done with just one reader. On the hot and steamy scale I’d put it at barely above tepid but it’s got Full Life Consequences level weirdness and spelling errors coming out of either end. Plus, it’s touhou, whose fandom is just weird in general in my book.

I don’t really get it either, especially when there’s such an obvious, non energy consuming option that makes more sense than being forced to rely on a finite power source. Since the animatrons want to stuff you in a machinery filled costume because they mistake you for a robot out of character, why not just supply the security guards with a normal mascot costume to wear during their shift? That way both you and they would be able to wander the building freely without worrying about a grisly end. IDK, maybe there’s an explanation why that wouldn’t work later on in the game, since I got bored of watching let’s plays of it before the third night was halfway over. If there is, it probably has to do with that “Possessed by the missing dead children” theory or whatever.

The theory about a cyberpunk future is actually pretty close to the only partially reasonable explanation I could think of for the battery limitations, except in my version it isn’t so much about money being more important than lives as it is limitations in renewable energy technology. In my version, the pizzaria is completely off the grid, possibly because there is no more power grid to speak of in the first place. Instead the building relies on solar power to run everything, and while that works fine during normal business hours, it’s not going to work during your midnight to 6am shift. They can charge up some batteries for you during the day, but considering the energy consumption it must take to run a business plus four remarkably high tech robots, you should really be more grateful for what you do have than complaining about what you don’t.

In any case, without the limitations on power actually being explained or addressed, the entire setup is pretty bullshitty if you ask me.

@citizen-stu On the subject of dragon porn I may be able to help with that. During a recent excursion to my local public library I stumbled across a collection of books called the “Sexy Beasts Series.” These were anthologies of erotica short stories by the same four or five authors, all featuring some type of mythical beast as at least one of the subjects. The creatures ranged from werewolves to weretigers to wendigos and yes, dragons. The dragons in this case were able to take on completely human looking appearances, and did so for most of the time, so I’m not sure if that’s something Jamela would be into, but if you’re looking for something to completely weird out your wife with, I’d start with that. If nothing else it will cause her to question why your erotica tastes apparently lean towards those of fantasy loving librarians.

While I’m here I’ve also got a question for @Jamela
    Dear Jamela,
What’s the best way for getting bloodstains/burnmarks out of expensive fabrics? Also, while I’m at it, what do you consider proper etiquette for stripping a corpse? Should an effort be made to to redress the body so that it’s not going into the afterlife as nude as the day they were born? Or would it be enough to just find a sheet or something to drape over them? Disposing of the body completely is not always an option I’m afraid, so it would be nice to know what would be more respectful both towards the deceased and those that discover them after I’ve left the scene.

The Episode itself first. That was beautiful. It was really cool to hear so many fans and friends come on to say their piece about how great the show’s been, and although the song selection didn’t exactly flow the way a normal episode would, seeing as it reflected the feelings of several people rather than just one, it truly was a collection of some of the best things to make it on to the show. If things could end on a higher note, it would be one only dogs could hear.

Now the announcement. Wow, that kind of hit me for a loop. I had gotten a change-is-coming pit in the bottom of my stomach reading the intro, mostly from the past tense in the final sentance, feeling before anything was even said that this was leading up to an announcement of some kind. I was hoping for something like moving to a different group or network, maybe a prolonged hiatus, something that was momentous, but ultimately small for devoted listeners. What we got was the end of an era. As my initial shock started to numb though, paranoia began to set in. How long had this been planned? Did it have anything to do with the fact that The Real Congregation didn’t seem to be showing up on Soundcloud? I had noticed for awhile now that the episodes weren’t being hosted there, instead still using the old mp3 system from before Nerdy Show made the switch. Even now the only episode of the Real Congregation to be uploaded on Soundcloud is the Menthol episode, the last episode before the change was made, and right before a month long hiatus of the show. The episode after the hiatus? Flatline Attitude, where Marc expressed a general ennui that seemed to carry on into subsequent episodes, even the Origins of Squiddy, despite it being a recording from his original show many years ago. So when was this decision made? Before, after or during the hiatus?

Conspiracy theories started swirling around, and then I sat back, listened to Marc’s goodbye again, and realized that no matter what the answers to those questions were, it wouldn’t bring the show back, and it wouldn’t make me love the Nerdy Show Network any less. Marc, we’ll miss hearing you regularly, but I wish you all the best. My only regret is not knowing the irony of all those well wishes for a long show run during the call-in portion. But then again, if we had known what was to come, I don’t think a single one of us could have made a recording without choking up.

    I think I need a tissue now.
