   It’s the Top 20 Nerdy Things of 2017 – our annual list that does the the impossible (and highly unnecessary) task of summarizing the year in orders of geekitude. Our list turns a discerning eye to all corners of human endeavor – from every medium of pop culture to scientific discoveries – and ranks them on a completely arbitrary and unscientific scale.

   Join Cap, boR, Trench, and Brandon as this manic year comes to an equally manic crescendo. When gauging “nerdiness” there’s always plenty of surprises – this year is no different including past winners that returned to dazzle us again, and a shocking wealth of so, so, so many gloriously good television shows.    We’re not going to beat around the bush, 2016 has been a mess. But in spite of tragedies, loss, and injustice aplenty, there’s been some spectacular achievements and innovations; from high science, to the most popcorn of pop culture, and everything in-between. That‘s what our annual Top 20 Nerdy Things list is all about: counting down the best, geekiest people, places, achievements, media, and more that the year has to offer and ranking them with the only measurement of any relevance left on this forsaken rock: nerdiness.

   Join Cap and Jess along with a rotating cast of faces from around The Nerdy Show Network (Doug, Jon, Brandon, Aaron, La Valle, Oral, Max, and Briggs) as we cast arbitrary and subjective judgements on topical geekitudes.    It’s the moment you’ve been waiting all year for: your friends at Nerdy Show have once more completed the impossible (and some argue unnecessary) task of ranking the top 20 nerdiest things of the year.

   Our list heralds from all facets of society: from science to game shows and pop culture to technology. We’ve run the gamut, collected a host of nerdy topics, and ranked them on a completely arbitrary and unscientific scale (save for the Google Sheets wizardry Jess cast to tally everyone’s votes). It’s always a heatedly debated list, but this year there is one glaring omission you’re sure to notice: The Force Awakens. The Star Wars frenzy is in full effect, pushing global nerd energies to ice cap melting extremes. In this case, that’s a good thing – but we felt it fair to omit the biggest player on the board so the rest could have a chance to shine. (more…)

   Every year the Nerdy Show crew mash our collective heads together to figure out the Top 20 Nerdy Things of the Year. Competition is always fierce and divisive. When you’re dealing with as subjective a quantifier as “nerdiness” things just don’t stack the same as your average “best of” lists. That why this year we’ve foregone the usual Honorable Mentions and created a series of superlatives to give due recognition to the more specific notes of nerd awesomeness that rocked us in the wily year of 2015.    2014, you wily beast… We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve partied, and we’ve run the gauntlet. All that’s left is the ultimate challenge – the FINAL BOSS that is Nerdy Show‘s annual “Top 20 Nerdy Things” list. The list that makes all other year-end countdowns cower in shame.

   What makes our Top 20 so brutal? We subject the year’s pop culture, achievements in science & technology, and world happenings to a test of might that leaves titans shattered: we rank them on nerdiness.  No sane person would dare compare a major motion picture against scientific achievement – but, for the betterment of humanity, we do.    We proudly present our 5th annual Top 20 Nerdy Things list!

   Since 2009 it’s been our solemn duty to create a list ranking the “Top 20 Nerdy Things” of the year.  We take all of pop culture, science & technology, and world happenings and subject them to a number of life-or-death challenges akin to Highlanders battling one another for the quickening, or The Hunger Games for you younglings.  Those topics that remain, the experts here at Nerdy Show judge by the truest qualifying factor we know: Nerdiness.  No sane person would dare rank scientific achievements against video game releases – but, for the betterment of humanity, we do.
