Star Wars Uprising

A new piece of the post-Return of the Jedi puzzle has been announced. Star Wars: Uprising is a roleplaying game for mobile devices set immediately after the fall of the second Death Star.  See for yourself in the just-released announcement trailer:

The game is being developed by Kabam and releases this fall, just in time to join the post-Jedi fray as part of a transmedia event being called “The Journey to The Force Awakens“. Alongside Greg Rucka’s Shattered Empire comic, Chuck Wendig’s Star Wars: Aftermath novel, this game, and several other tie-ins, fans will get a glimpse into what transpired after Episode VI before VII hits theaters this Christmas. The promise of exploring the post-Jedi era in an RPG setting is a truly exciting prospect. But can they pull it off?

Star Wars: Uprising is a deep role playing game experience that will immerse players in the Star Wars universe during a unique time following the fall of Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine,” says Kabam Senior VP Aaron Loeb. “The Kabam RPG Studio has taken its collective experience and passion for role playing games to focus on creating a unique and immersive gameplay experience for Star Wars fans and RPG gamers around the world.”

A “deep” and “immersive” RPG experience from a mobile game is big talk, but Kabam has an ace in the hole: none other than Daniel Erickson, former creative director of Star Wars: The Old Republic. His involvement alone makes this a game to watch. Erickson is joined by prolific Clone Wars animation supervisor Danny Keller to add a substantial amount of clout to Uprising.

Based on the trailer and press release, the game looks to focus on the criminal and Rebel underbelly, taking advantage of the Empire’s disarray. Uprising offers character creation with customizable gear and skill sets, hundreds of abilities, real time co-op, and mission-based gameplay that includes “amassing a powerful crew and cartel to join in large-scale sector-wide battles that dictate the future of the game universe.” Character classes include Smuggler, Bounty Hunter, Rebel Guerilla, Diplomat, Gambler or the ability to create your own unique class. Thus so far, the game will be set in the Anoat Sector which includes well-tread Star Wars gaming locales Hoth and Bespin as well as lesser-known destinations like Burnin Konn.

Star Wars: Uprising‘s official site is live and offers a pre-registration that allows fans access to polls that will decide features of the game universe and the opportunity to win excursive in-game gear. The site also holds many notes as to deeper aspects of the game world including the three known factions: The Nobles, Trade Spine League, and The Rebel Alliance as well as characters like the leader of the Imperial Purge Troopers, Commander Bragh.

Star Wars: Uprising will begin a beta roll out in select territories in the upcoming weeks. For more exciting Star Wars news and speculation – check out our podcast series State of the Empire where we “Look For News in Alderaan Places”.
