Disney Infinity 3.0 to Include The Force Awakens, Tron, an Inside Out Sequel, and Possibly Captain EO

star_wars_disney_inifnity_3_0-1Disney Infinity is evolving once again. Each successive year the virtual toy chest of cross-property adventure expands into something bold and new. Last year, they took on the whole Marvel Universe, this year it’s the Star Wars galaxy – and that’s just the beginning!

The Star Wars line debuts in two sets: the Clone Wars/ Prequel-era with a set called Twilight of the Republic and the original trilogy era with Rise Against the EmpireDisney Infinity figurines have always been fun and stylized, but their Star Wars figures are truly incredible in both detail and exciting sculpts. We’re not just evaluating the prototypes on display – we’ve unboxed our own preview figures and they’re worth getting whether you’re invested in the game or not.

The full rosters for the initial releases of both Star Wars sets of Disney Infinity have been released and will include characters from Star Wars Rebels as well. But… there is another. Yes, the upcoming third trilogy will also get its own Infinity set with The Force Awakens. Much like the film of the same name, very little is known, but the set is anticipated to coincide with the film’s release this December.

Other exciting notes from Infinity include a power disc called “Toybox Speedway” that unlocks an exciting Sugar Rush-style (*cough* Mario Kart *cough*) racer that can pit any character against another. (I saw Frozen‘s Olaf racing on a Nightmare Before Christmas track.) Despite the third film having recently been cancelled, Tron: Legacy‘s Quorra and Sam Flynn are represented with amazing figures. And, the recent Pixar film Inside Out will have a set that effectively functions as a sequel to the film – just in time for the movie’s home release.

In the playset, the film’s young girl star, Riley falls asleep during a horror film. Within her dreamscape, her emotional personifications have to fend off Riley’s nightmares and replace them with good dreams. The film’s director, Pete Docter, oversaw the stage’s design and it’s the first time that a Disney Infinity level has relied on co-operative two person gameplay – akin to portions of Little Big Planet.

Last but definitely not least, while Captain EO isn’t locked in for Disney Infinity 3.0 specifically, Infinity VP John Vignocchi recently confirmed that he’d secured the approval of Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and the Jackson estate to produce EO content of some kind. With Star Wars officially included and deep Lucasfilm cuts like Captain EO being explored, will the next big thing for Infinity be raiding the rest of the vaults? Can Indiana Jones and (more importantly) Willow be far behind?
