Wow, this is starting to become a habit… Kickstarter forum anyone?

There’s six days left on this kickstarter campaign and the backers have managed to to raise double the initial asking amount. Not only is the show bible is funded but there will be two minute animation teaser released as well. Furthermore, if the backers manage to break $200,000($113,000 so far) a 22 minute episode will be produced! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1820796125/swat-kats-revolution

I’ve been watching this one pretty closely. It’s an interesting situation – asking fans to fund the bible for possible production with no clear grantee of (full) production. Effectively Kickstarting a pitch. I’ve seen more notable crowdfunding efforts than SWAT Kats flub campaigns that had a clearer reward to backing.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what they’re doing, but it’s interesting that they’ve been able to get as far as they have, even as popular as the series was. I wouldn’t have gone into this without the bible already produced nor would I have declined to offer at least a digital version of the bible to backers since that’s what was initially being funded. Hopefully after all these years the Kats can still kick tail, but 20 years is a long time.

Thanks Cap. I was not aware of the in and outs of producing a show.

Yeah, it’s weird that there is no actual “thing” being kickstarted here. That seems like it ought to violate the KS terms of service (though they are pretty loose with those whenever it suits them to be so).

Also, those reward teirs seem dramatically under-funded for what they are offering. In what universe can you make a 70 minute hand-animated movie for just $1.5 million? And is that including the previous unlock levels, or instead of the previous unlock levels? If instead of, I don’t think that’s how that is supposed to work either; your unlock levels are supposed to supplement the previous thing, but there’s no way you can do what they are saying they will do for that money.
