    Are any of you cool guys still playing Destiny on PS4?
    I just want to know before I kick open the doors to Walmart and get a copy.

    Is it actually good? The commercials piss me off so I haven’t looked into it.

    (I also never touched Borderlands because the cover looks like Red Hot Chili Peppers album, I sure am awesome.)

    Borderlands is awesome in my book. (It’s been highlighted with every pen I own for emphasis.)

    So, I’ve never played destiny. Been too busy with borderlands still. (That and my 360 got thrown out a window, so I’m not playing anything not on my phone)

    i dont own ps4, nor have played destiny (I agree with @anduin about borderlands) but i support your desire @maraun to kick walmart doors open. preferably with a car.

    I’m more inclined to try Borderlands than Destiny now…

    I don’t mean to derail this thread.

    @m
    , I’ll warn you about Borderlands. Cause there is a lot of criticism for its lack of story. (Especially the first one). It is essentially a space aged Diablo (1&2, not played 3 myself) style game. It’s got more jokes, but it’s basically all side quests and it’s fun cause the mechanics are fun.

    Based on the nerdy show episode, I think destiny is similar, but I’m not sure how the comedy or story ranks.

    I like Borderlands, but I also have a twinge in my hand for playing too much Diablo.

    @Anduin

    An RPG with even passable story is a rare gem, I’m not expecting that. Diablo 1 and 2 were great and I did sink in desperate hours to the mmorpg-modeled one too. I think fun mechanics might be just fine, I simply never looked into it because the cover looked obnoxious.

    I agree about the cover being obnoxious. I thought the sane thing if the first cover. It was advertised towards the non gamer, rock asshole-esk crowd in my opinion. I knew a few that considered the game just because of the music in the commercial.

    Borderlands 1 plays into this “style” a lot, but it’s still a nerd game at its core with achievements and Easter eggs abound.
    Borderlands 2 multiplies the nerd factor by 20 and adds more character development.

    From the NS review of Destiny, the game play and mechanics seem to similar to BL, and I’ve not had the time to dig any deeper into the aesthetics.
    The cover makes me think meh.

    Yeah, the game had weird punk / surfer vibe going on that turned me off… Similarly the cyber-hobbits in Destiny’s trailer have this obnoxious one-dimensional “acting cool” thing going for them. (Also, I like Immigrant Song, stay away from my Immigrant Song, Destiny!)

    I’m still playing it with Tony, and on occasion Brandon and Colin. Not as much anymore mind you, but that has more to do with the fact that I scored all the gear I needed for lvl 30 and maxed out the stats on my weapons of choice, so there really wasn’t anything more for me to do until the new content dropped today.

    @Maraun
    If you’re looking for a shooter to play with friends, pick up Destiny, it’s worth it and is about as much fun as playing Halo’s campaign co-op was, just minus the story. If you’re looking for that deep, engaging story through, then you’re better off skipping it for now since there’s only the bare bones skeleton of a story and lots of promises of it being fleshed out more in the future.

    @M
    that’s because those are player characters in the trailer. The NPCs aren’t really any better though, just swap “acting cool” for “vaguely alluding to past or present events”.

    @Anduin
    As far as comedy goes, Borderlands wins, hands down. Unless you want to count poking fun at Peter Dinklage’s terribly directed voice acting.

    I honestly plan to keep an eye on Destiny. The episode describing it had me sold, but I’d like to wait till 1) the story/potential fleshes out, 2) I get a decent setup to play again.

    I’m disappointed to hear that the storyline is lacking/absent. I really do enjoy that part in games, even shooters. I knew it wasn’t going to be Mass Effect intense, but I hope it expands a bit.

    @trench88
    Thanks for letting me know you and Tony are still playing it. I won’t be picking up a copy right away, but since none of my friends currently have ps4 I’m hoping there’s some people out there I can group up with a bit.

    @M
    and @Anduin I loved the first two Borderlands games, but I would never say they’re worth the $60 of most fresh, new titles. I’m looking forward to picking up Pre-Sequel next year sometime when the price comes down.

    @pseery80
    Kicking open doors is always the way to go, but automatic sliding doors were a real game changer. Moving targets are hard. Your car method might work.

    I’ve acquired a copy of Destiny now. If anyone from the Nerdy crew is interested in playing, I’d love a teammate or two.
    My PSN gamer tag is LastNumenorean, same as Xbox Live.

    Well, this is a bit off-topic again, but Borderlands 1 and it’s cash-grabs were on sale so I gave it a go. Only played few hours to try out each characters (and meet mr. Nine Toes, lol), but the game is definitely a lot of fun.

    Maybe I’m wrong about Destiny too, hobbits are more fun than red hot chili peppers after all.
