  1. Nerdy Show Microsode: Ultraman

When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews.

Here it comes! You’ve heard us talk about kaiju and daikaiju of all sizes, but we’ve never devoted an entire discussion to Japan’s giant silver defender, Ultraman… until now.

In this listener-requested Microsode, the Ultraman-uninitiated (Cap and Brandon), discover the series via the tender, loving hands of tokusatsu enthusiasts Arkais and Ghostbusters: Resurrection‘s Mike Wall. We can only scratch the surface of this long-running, record-breaking, multiversal series, but just like every pastoral farmhouse in Ultraman’s wake, we leave a mark. Get advice on where to start, learn about the series’ legendary pedigree, and more! (more…)

  2. Lightning Dogs: The Official Paw’dcast :: Episode 17 :: Thing Names

Ride with The Lightning Dogs: canines from another world; stranded on a post-apocalyptic Earth. It’s a crazy idea fueled by our favorite 80s pop culture and we’ve been recording our development of it since the moment lightning struck. Join us on our quest to build this world and launch it as an animated series.

When last we talked vehicles, we were simply paving the way for the designs to come. We discussed the influences we wanted to pull from and kicked around a few early mock-ups for what kinds of cobbled together junk cars the peoploids would be cruising around in.

Now, Cap, Doug, Tony, and Max are ready to zero in on the cars at the heart of our series: the Lightning Dogs’ sweet rides. And, of course, no vehicle episode would be complete without some fascinating detours into the stranger realms of car culture. We explore crystal-powered engine designs and what that technology might mean for the look and sound of the cars, ask hard-hitting questions like “does Glampire need a signature vehicle?”, and build vehicle and accessory concepts backwards from a repository of “thing names” – random punny titles that would have been right at home in 80s and 90s action figure aisles. 3. Flame On :: Episode 146 :: Logan – Breath of the Moonlight

fo_logo_1400x1400Flame ON! is the all-gay, all-geek podcast. Tune in as we dish on the latest in pop and queer culture!

We kick things off with a discussion of some interesting “In The News” topics including the Oscars flub heard round the world and the “oh my stars and garters there’s a gay character in the new Beauty and the Beast movie” controversy that has conservatives clutching their pearls and vowing to boycott the movie. Speaking of movies, we touch on Logan (full microsode discussion forthcoming) before we dig into the psychological (and incredibly topical) Get Out from Jordan Peele – it’s a very spoiler heavy review so be warned!

We move onto TV where we break down the good, the bad, and the over the top schmaltzy CW shows. From there we stroll through the immense and gorgeous open world that is Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and you’ll hear all about Bryan’s adventure to acquire his Nintendo Switch. We also touch on some other video game news (including the new Steven Universe RPG) before we take our first listener question! Joel Bradshaw (@Thespispunk88) does the honors of popping our new segment and we can’t wait for more.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be an episode of Flame ON! without us dishing on comics. We touch on the end of Inhumans Vs X-Men and the upcoming ResurrXion (spoiler alert, Bryan HATED IT!) as well as America #1 and The Flintstones!

In place of our 1-UPs for the week we give our picks for #TryPod month! So, if you are looking for some new listening material check out what our crew is listening to and let us know what you think as well as what YOU are listening to! We’d also love it if you share our show with your friends with the hashtag #FlameON #TryPod!

All of this is waiting for you in this episode, so sit back and get ready to FLAME ON!

  4. Nerdy Show 284 :: Zelda Carts Give You the Breath of the Wild

Breath of the WildThe Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast unloads on the latest geek news and happenings!

Do you love that not-so-fresh feeling? Do you delight in the mouth stank that comes with sleeping in the wilderness and necking with bokoblins on lonely nights? You crave the Breath of the Wild!

Join Cap, boR, Brandon, and Jon as we examine this vastly different installment in the Zelda series: gameplay, storyline, and yes… flavor. We also discuss our quest to procure Nintendo Switches, and our experiences with the new system. While their carts might taste like poison, is this the breath of fresh air Nintendo needs to get back in the game?

While the Big N might dominate the discussion, there’s still room for other nerditudes, like Overwatch‘s Orisa, the grizzled, hard-R Old Man Logan, and our discovery of a fascinating and horrible late 90s reality show from Japan that locked a man named “Eggplant” naked in a room for a year, surviving only by winning magazine contests. Delicious! (more…)

  5. Nerdy Show Interview: Fatal Farm Returns to Lasagna Cat

When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews.

Chances are good that at some point you’ve seen a video created by Fatal Farm.  They’re a duo of FX wizards who specialize in subversion and surrealism, and whose work is as hilarious as it is head-scratching. They’ve done sketches for Key & Peele, had a hand in two Adult Swim specials, are the brains behind the notorious penis-exploding scene in Our RoboCop Remake, and nearly 10 years ago, unleashed three incredible web series on an unsuspecting world, including their crown jewel: Lasagna Cat.

Lasagna Cat is a “tribute” to the works of Jim Davis – live action reenactments of Garfield strips put into a psychic blender. We’ve been revisiting these videos for years… and all of a sudden there’s more of them… and a 1-800 number sex survey. Sound confusing? Never fear – all will be explained. Cap is joined by Fatal Farm (Zach Johnson and Jeffery Max) as they peel off the cat suit and expose the series’ unmentionables. Learn why (and how) they collected 1000 people’s sexual information, hear about the years of trials and tribulations that led to this glorious Garfield moment – and that’s just for starters. They also share an alternate TV intro that never came to be, how their prank series Infinite Solutions prompted an emergency Microsoft meeting, muse on transposing pop culture and pop art, share pro tips for faking birth in a bathroom stall, and give us a taste of the creature features to come. (more…)

  6. Nerdy Show Review: Kong: Skull Island

When The Nerdy Show Network’s flagship podcast isn’t unloading on the latest geek news and happenings, we’re diving deep into super-specific discussions and interviews.

Prepare yourself for an ape apocalypse! If you’re on the fence about Kong: Skull Island like we were, this spoiler-free review will see you right. It’s a hard sell: a King Kong reboot set in the same universe as the 2014 Godzilla – hypothetically aiming for a crossover. We think we were right to be skeptical, but the results? Well, join Brandon and boR as they provide their reactions and takeaways… Let’s just say that, much like the characters of the film, they were surprised by what they found. (more…)
