Episode 30 :: Metroid Babies

September 2nd, 2010

The Nerdy Show SEASON 3 FINALE!

With Metroid: Other M just having come out for the Wii, now seems like the best time for Nerdy Show to devote a whole episode to one of the greatest game series’ of all-time, Metroid, and it’s bounty hunting protagonist – Samus Aran!  But something’s gone awry for the strong, silent, space pirate-slayer… the same thing that plagues every woman as they near the big 3-0… she’s gone baby crazy…  METROID BABY CRAZY!  Our review of Other M elaborates, as do the Nerdy Show gents.  You know their strange little minds tend to wander.

Not only does this episode weigh the pros and cons of this new game-changing installment to the legendary series, but it explores Metroid’s past.  The gang share stories of their first time on the planet Zebes and delve into the series chronology and its real-world origins – the games’ influences and the men who created it.  The episode also features a playlist of stupendous Metroid-influenced music and an interview with Metroid Metal - the band that screw attacks nerd music like no other. All that plus some suped-up sci-tech that’ll hit ya – pow!  Right in the baby-maker!

Though this is the last episode of Season 3, we won’t be gone -  no, no, no, no.  Listen to this episode for some hints to what we have in store and some cool things we’re going to be bringing to you in the interim.  Nerdy Show.com will still be quite “bumpin”, as the kids say, so be sure to check back with us often to see what we’ve cooked up, and keep an eye out for announcements for what awesome may come!

Episode 25 :: ComiCon Carne

July 28th, 2010

comicon carneThis summer has been fat-packed with events and they keep coming.  Riding on the heels of Nerdapalooza is the mother of ‘em all – San Diego Comic-Con.  In recent years the convention has become so much more than comic books – it’s the nerd media event with EVERYTHING: movies, teevee, video games, comics, action figures – the whole savory enchilada of pop culture smothered in a verde sauce of geeky juices. It’s a lot to handle!

Nerdy Show has tasted the many flavors of Comic-Con’s meaty soup and picked out the most delicious nuggets of news including the Marvel films, the Green Lantern movie, and other outstanding comic film showings like The Goon! Joining us to talk about his first hand V.I.P. experience in San Diego is A Comic Show and Bleeding Cool‘s Aaron Haaland.  Plus: stabbings, protests, and cosplay bank robberies, hurray!

We also talk about the forthcoming release of PC Gaming blockbuster – Starcraft 2 and Cap give his review of the epic new X-Box Arcade game Limbo and more more more!

Episode 22 :: Were The Wild Things Are

July 7th, 2010

were the wild things areZombies are on their way out, vampires are all the rage again, but there’s a new up-and-comer in the pop culture paranormal circuit… werewolves.  Sure, werewolves have been around a long time but they’ve never seen a surge in popularity like this before.  It seems like there’s an outbreak of lycanthropy in the western world and it’s hitting hard – with would-be teen wolves running amok in North American schools and shopping malls, even Nerdy Show has lost one of its number to the lupine side.

In this episode we rail on the nonsense of the Twilight series, look into real life teen wolves and explore their tragic wolven anguish on the internet and their hatred for the “hunters”.  Our werewolf discussion heats up when we place a call to Lunario Von Darkwolfe III, who claims to have been a werewolf for over seventy years and then get him on the phone with our duck huntin’ pal, Dean Wallace who may have bagged him a wolf-man or two in the past.

There’s plenty of comics, video games, and science mixed in with all this wolfy nonsense – but that’s not all.  What’s the craze that never waxes and wanes but is as immortal as the sea and sky?  NINJAS of course!  Masurao and Shinobi of Krondor Krew join us in the studio for some hardcore ninja-talk, armed to the teeth and sporting some sacred silver blades just in case they should be attacked by a were-creature.

June 28th, 2010

The Labrador & the LaboratoryWelcome, fearless listener, to the sixth edition of Dungeons & Doritos! Ye who have been clamoring for more dusty deliciousness have been duly rewarded for your patience, for this month ye have not one but TWO episodes of peril and adventure! DOUBLE-DIP into the salsa of June and savor this zesty treat!

In this episode, Vimak, CHAIR, and Jamela are still en route to Cool Ranch, looking to meet up with their less-than-enthusiastic comrade, Jen’Ifer.  But what’s a road trip without pitstops?  The gang happens upon a prosperous boom town surrounding a wizard’s tower and Jamela smells opportunity, and it smells like… a talking dog!?

Last episode we started using Sagas RPG a system created from the ground up by our new Game Master, Ruel. But “Birdbath” was but a test run that we liked so much we decided to release it.  THIS episode marks our first official use of Sagas and to mark the occasion we’ve finally got our character sheets available online as well as character bios.  The character sheets will change and update as our adventures continue – hooray!

Worried about following along?  Worry not!  Ruel’s got your back – just go HERE for a digital copy of the Fantasy Sagas Player’s Guidebook. Play along with us!

Episode 900 :: Bad-Ass’d

March 24th, 2010

bad-ass'd 300What the heck!? We’re already at Episode 900!! Must be because, just like Deadpool, we’re so BAD-ASS!! If you don’t already have a pair, get ready to grow one, ’cause this episode is starring some of the manliest men who’ve dipped their wick into geekdom.  No, not Nerdy Show – those guys are wusses!  We’re talking to Deadpool and Wolverine scribe, Daniel Way, smooth talkin’ space mayor, Billy Dee Williams, hard-boiled Sgt. Rock writer/artist, Billy Tucci, mister Latino machismo himself, Erik Estrada, and the somewhat meeker, but certainly strong-jawed, MC Frontalot.

How’d we score all this raw man-power? Between MegaCon and Cap’s sojourn to Austin, Texas for SXSW we wracked up an assload of interviews that are ready to blow!  So pound some beer, wrestle a hound dog, flex your glutes, drink some black coffee, eat a rare steak, and listen to this hard-boiled episode.

We guarantee you’ll grow at least one full beard… but there’s no telling where.

Episode 008 :: Pokésode

March 17th, 2010

pokesode 300At long last, the Pokésode!  Where we give (almost) unabashed love to all 493 Pokémon!  Well, we all know Mike is the true Pokémaniac/Poképhile amongst us, the rest of Nerdy Show are just along for the ride.  But, to make things interesting, we’ve brought back our atrocious counterparts from Overclocked After Dark to revel in our Pokédecadence.

We’re also recovering from a weekend of elbow-rubbing, cosplaying, and geek reveling at  Megacon.  Our MegaCon love will be spread out all month long with celebrity and conventioneer interviews every week.  First up is none-other than Lea Thompson (Lorraine from Back to the Future and Beverley from Howard the Duck) and Kristin, a Pokémaniac cosplayer whose Scyther costume shows ol’ #123 some serious fan-love.

To quote Mike, this is probably our sexiest episode yet! Listen closely for an AMAZING bump from one of the upcoming interviewees!

Also, for your viewing pleasure, photos from Megacon, courtesy of Hex’s Best Friend Bob.
