Nerdy Show

Welcome back, weary traveler, to the flavor-dusted land of Doritodonia. CHAIR, Vimak, and Jamela have gone through some strange and harrowing adventures on their way to reunite with their waylaid and sulfurous companion, Jen’Ifer, but at long last, Cool Ranch is in sight and the team is on the verge of being whole again.  Of course, with these four, nothing ever goes the way it’s planned!  There’s a mystery afoot in Cool Ranch, but are they clever enough to solve it?  If Wolf-Bear is Scooby, does that make Vimak Shaggy?  Or is it CHAIR? And how does Jen’Ifer factor into these Foul Deeds at Cool Ranch?

Welcome, fearless listener, to the sixth edition of Dungeons & Doritos! Ye who have been clamoring for more dusty deliciousness have been duly rewarded for your patience, for this month ye have not one but TWO episodes of peril and adventure! DOUBLE-DIP into the salsa of June and savor this zesty treat!

In this episode, Vimak, CHAIR, and Jamela are still en route to Cool Ranch, looking to meet up with their less-than-enthusiastic comrade, Jen’Ifer.  But what’s a road trip without pitstops?  The gang happens upon a prosperous boom town surrounding a wizard’s tower and Jamela smells opportunity, and it smells like… a talking dog!?

Last episode we started using Sagas RPG a system created from the ground up by our new Game Master, Ruel. But “Birdbath” was but a test run that we liked so much we decided to release it.  THIS episode marks our first official use of Sagas and to mark the occasion we’ve finally got our character sheets available online as well as character bios.  The character sheets will change and update as our adventures continue – hooray!

The triumphant return of DUNGEONS & DORITOS! Journey once more with CHAIR, Vimak, Jamalla and Jen’Ifer on their questionable travels for riches, renown and… other stuff.  After their confrontation with the Maze of Mischief, the band of miscreants finds that their favorite Tiefling has gone off, leaving only a letter.  So they plot their quest in the direction of Jen’Ifer and leave the town of Port O’Jon. This episode finds our mismatched trio wandering the countryside of Doritodonia

This episode marks the dawn of a new era of DnD – with our new Game Master, Ruel and a new mode of play – Sagas RPG. It’s a fast, fun, and flexible form of table top perfect for our style of play and amazing for smoothly playing with chaos and creativity.  If you haven’t heard it yet, check out last episode of Nerdy Show, “Cosmic Things“where we interviewed Ruel and talk about what makes Sagas different and how we’re going to integrate it into DnD.

It’s important to note that this isn’t the first official game of us playing Sagas.  Before we made the commitment to dive into a whole new system and join up with a new GM we had to give ‘em a test drive.  This was our test run of Sagas, based on loose renderings of our character sheets, not the final versions that are coming soon. We weren’t planning on releasing this recording as an episode, but we liked it so much we had to!  This is a harrowing adventure and these events are sure to come back to haunt the DnD crew.

Dungeons and Doritos is returning to its monthly schedule full-time, but to make up for your waiting you’ll be getting TWO episodes this month.  So be on the lookout for Episode 6 soon, the first episode where we play through with Sagas in its full glory.  With character sheets, bios, and more goodies when it launches.

Also, this is the first episode we’ve had since our poll on whether or not DnD should feature music. The votes are in and you’ve voted to keep music but have fewer tracks and so thine wish is granted! This episode  has only three songs. Let us know your thoughts! Well, despite our original trepidations that anyone would want to sit around listening to us playing DnD, Team Nerdy Show is now four episodes into the arguably most anticipated portion of Nerdy Show, Dungeons & Doritos. We are very glad that you seem to wholeheartedly enjoy the misadventures of Jamela, CHAIR, Jen’Ifer, and Vimak.

However, there seems to be only one thing y’all seem to have a differing mind when it comes to the show, and that’s whether or not we should have musical breaks in the adventures. We started with music, as it was an actual episode of Nerdy Show to begin with, and continued it out of tradition, but before long we heard complaints (be they via comment, random forum posts that we lurk, or IRL convos) that it should go without music. Unsure if this was a universal thought or that those who enjoyed music in the episodes were the silent majority, we had our last episode, Mid-Day in the Maze of Mischief, sans-music, only to hear a wave of complaints as well as a wave of huzzahs!

Well, nerds and geeks, we are done guessing. There’s really only one way to solve this problem: democratically. We have opened up a poll that shall run until March 31st, 2010 at 8 PM Eastern to vote on your thoughts on music in Dungeons & Doritos. Let us know your thoughts, because we love hearing from you, and without you, we would just be talking to ourselves, which we do the rest of the week ANYWAYS. So go and vote!

The conclusion:

Word on the street is that most of you like having music.  That’s pretty darn cool.  So, in future episodes, look forward to a few tracks at chapter-like intervals – either setting the mood, riffing off in-game jokes, or just generally enhancing your RPG listening experience.  Thanks to everyone who participated.  It is written in Galdap’s tomes that you are awesome.

We’ve got more Dungeons & Doritos on the way, and some exciting plans in store – so stay tuned.  May is going to be a big month for DnD.
