ep2032014 is drawing to a close. The tinsel is coming down, the caroling has ceased, but we’ve got a little holiday spirit left in us… kinda.

In this Microsode join Cap, Doug, Matt, and our Live Producer, John La Valle as we discuss movies set during the holidays that aren’t consumed by Christmas cheer – these films are good any time of the year! So if you’re coming off your Christmas binge of extreme merry-making or winter doldrums, we’ve got a playlist of great films that sample the Yuletide without overdoing it.

But why should Christmas get all the fun? Hanukkah and Kwanza might be under-represented, but there’s a whole year’s worth of holiday films out there! Hear our two cents on which movies most aptly use Halloween and Thanksgiving as backdrops without limiting where and when you can enjoy them.

Thanks to Anique Zimmer for the Microsode topic. Yippie-ki-yi-yay!

Christmas Carol is a Christmas movie (as is scrooged) the reason being even though it is about a man changing from a dick to a good person, it would not be as meaningful any other time of the year.

    • I forgot that The Ref took place on Christmas. Guess that means it counts.

Oh crap, how could we forget Bad Santa?!

Doug there were probably a lot of christmas based films we all are forgetting.

  • Kyle Sweeney

I find Adams Familiy Values to be a good Thanksgiving movie.

      VERY good point!

  • Scott John Harrison

God damn “Happy Christmas You Guys” sounds like it is from Clarence despite it being from 2008.

I have only watched the first episode but hearing that song makes me want to catch up.

I would not be surprised if a new version of this song is produced for a Christmas episode of Clarence sometime in the future (if only because I would really love to see the song animated.)

Right? I’ve been wondering the same thing. It’s only a matter of time really. Panrucker’s music is so manic, so unique and Clarence is such a great show – it only gets better.
